  • Apple's New Sync Cable Connector to be the Same Size as a Micro USB Cable?

Newly released images help compare what appears to be a Micro-USB cable with the rumored smaller 9-pin dock connector Apple is said to be deploying with the next-generation iPhone. The side-by-side comparison shots from French blog, nowhereelse.fr, help show that the two components share almost identical dimensions.

One strange thing discovered in the photos is the fact that the paraphernalia is from Chinese electronics firm, MEIZU, however the source said to not “pay attention to [that] detail,” adding that the alleged part in question is in fact a legitimate Apple product. As seen in the images, the purported 9-pin format appears to be nearly identical in size to the Micro USB plug, although Apple’s part seems to be slightly longer and thinner.

According to the source, the supposed new plug will feature a layout that has eight pins exposed on either side of a metal shell which serves as the ninth contact. This allows for orientation-independent use which is something that may please many users, allowing users to no longer have to make sure that the connector is right side up when inserting it into an iOS device.

We’ll find out what’s true and what’s not soon enough though as Apple is expected to unveil the next-generation iPhone this week at a September 12 special event.

Relooking at the pics: How easy will it be to get those pins dirty/damaged?

Dock connectors cover the pins to keep them protected but this exposes them to any and everything...

      What do u all think?

I know, right? No wonder they're the most valuable company in the world. Because of how stupid they are.

I am 100% sure that Apple will release an adapter at the same time. They have too many of their own equipment that use the old connector to risk not putting one out. All the docking stations for a start

      Just my opinion

Wonder what there going to do with the EU version of the iPhone? as by law they must have a Micro USB port due to the changes last year/years, to make all phone cables universal.

The law was passed before the 4 & 4S but apple had a short time to adopt, so they will need to bundle a converter with the device or have a traditional micro USB connector built in.

This whole connector change after this many gens of i products is a joke. Particularly for all of the dock interfaces a lot of us have around our homes to allow the iphone to interface different devices as already mentioned. Then like others here, I've got one car with a hardwired iphone interface cable and other with interchangeable cable, which will then depend on how quickly the car maker responds to make a new version. Then on top of that I can see needing more than one of these damn adapters around the place to make sure I'm not caught out. First example will be the dock for my beside system, that charges and interfaces with my phone every day. then I think hmmm, we now lose that great ability to 'borrow' peoples chargers when you're caught short on charge- well at least till everyone catches up. Either that or don't forget to tote a bloody adapter around just in case...Whatever the solution is, it had want to be both cheap and robust. Next thing if they make any adapter too big is I can see a nasty stress point being created between dock and phone. Then a slip or accidental knock, and snap somethings going to break, unless this 'thing' is super low profile...

      First world problems eh?

A change to the connector was going to happen eventually. It was always going to get smaller.
Get your iPhone, plug it into your car, launch Google Maps and find the nearest bridge and get over it.

I find it odd that you bash them for not making it customizable when OSes like Windows and Mac don't even let you customize unless you modify the system! (Sure you can change color and sound, but that's it)

and why would they do that? they know that people will buy whatever they put out--unless those people are smart enough to just buy a phone that does what they want/need as opposed to buying one just because of the apple brand.

Apple will never give you USB or HDMI ports because then you can use your iDevice with other devices as you please.

Maybe someone here can help me. I have this great printer, uses a 50 pin ribbon connector. I decided to buy a newer model printer. The bastards changed the connector on me! Now it uses some little thing called USB. Damn it all. It's a conspiracy, I tell you. Now I need an adapter. I hate progress.

Listen there's always gonna be change... Some we agree with, some we don't. We all know that things can't be the same, if that's the case we'd still be using dial-up... lol with innovation comes progression. With progression comes advancement & with advancement comes, change.
