  • Development for Twitter for Mac to Come to a Stop

In what seems to be a rather bitter twist, Twitter fans may be left a little disappointed as word on the web points toward Twitter no longer developing updates for Twitter for Mac. According to MG Siegler of TechCrunch, Twitter made the decision that it wonít be developing updates for the Mac client recently. The application, which is used by many, wonít completely be killed off and users will still be able to download it from the App Store, it just wonít be receiving updates anymore as mentioned before.

This move shouldnít really come as a shock to anyone who has been following the news as Twitter in recent months seemed to quit updating the application with necessary features found in other versions. Even as the company held close ties with Apple, Twitter wasnít updated for Mac to support the new Retina MacBook Pro and furthermore the application wasnít tied in with Mountain Lionís new notification system either.

Itís been rumored that a Retina version of Twitter for Mac has been finished behind the lines but it seems to have been shelved. Siegler in his post mentioned that Twitter has not only stopped updating the application but in fact wants to kill it. This is a move that they want to take in order to move everyone to the web version of its social media platform which is much easier to maintain. As of right now, this decision temporarily drives Twitter power users to adopt third-party application such as Tweetbot. Third-party apps such as Tweetbot are going strong as the company recently moved the software into beta with a final version set to hit in the next few months. Other third-party applications such as TweetDeck have not commented on the matter just yet.

Tweetbot has always been better than Twitter; wouldn't think of using anything else.

Have long used TweetDeck. Don't think I have ever once even launched the native Twitter app.
