27-Inch iMac Supplies Constrained, Possible Refresh Soon
Apple’ iMac inventory is drying up leading to speculation that a refresh is on the way.
Earlier this month resellers across the country noticed constrained 27” iMac supply resulting in shortages. Those same supply constraints are beginning to affect Apple’s own retail stores as well with many stores reporting September 7 as the earliest new shipment days.
MacRumors discovered when selecting Apple’s Personal Pickup service to survey which Apple stores have 27” iMacs in stock to pick up only half of the 249 retail stores across the U.S. have the option to place an order online. For many customers who do have the option to place and order online, they're informed the earliest they can pick the order is after September 11. Other stores are quoting pickup dates between September 4 and September 7 as well.
While the tight supply of 27” could hint at a possible refresh soon (tight supply usually means a refresh or a product is being discontinued) the fact that the 21.5” model is in plentiful supply everywhere is odd. Perhaps Apple is having some production problems?
Hopefully an iMac refresh is on the way, adopting the MacBook Pro’s USB 3.0 support, and Intel’s latest generation processors.
