LG Display Company reportedly started mass producing their new in-cell displays that many have speculated will be featured in the next-generation iPhone.
Reports by both Reuters and The Wall Street Journal include quotes from LG Display Co. chief executive Han Sang-beom claiming the new in-cell displays entered mass production earlier this month. Han was careful not to mention who would be receiving the displays, but did mention that the production schedule won’t affect their customers’ product release plans.
LG’s new in-cell displays utilize a new technology that embeds touch sensors directly into the display removing the need for a digitizer resulting in thinner components for space-conscious designers a la Apple.
The Wall Street Journal report includes Sharp and Japan Display along with LG as the companies that are currently producing in-cell displays for the next-generation iPhone.
"We had some hard times (in developing the new in-cell technology) at first ... but it seems those hard times have finally ended. The in-cell technology is the industry's latest development. (But) we will be able to supply the panels without any fail.” — Han
