  • iPad Jailbreak: Rumor Roundup
A quick look at the status of an iPad jailbreak.

While there's no official word from anyone, MuscleNerd tweeted "spirit," a jailbreak solution being worked on by comex, should work on an iPad without any modification:

"spirit" by @comex is pretty solid already. In fact, the expectation is it'll work during iPad testing as-is, no changes needed.

Neither geohot nor the DevTeam have said anything yet... but geohot's got his iPad.

So far saurik's only comment has been "Cydia on the iPad will happen if a jailbreak is released." Here's hoping someone releases something... but when? We've also heard from saurik's Twitter:

I, and many others, are hoping for a delayed release of any iPad jailbreaks, to allow the same exploit to be used on 3.2 iPhones.
Which makes sense. As we and many others have pointed out many times, there's a finite amount of exploits available on these devices, and there's no reason to use them up on minor releases (the same reason we don't have a 3.1.3 un-tethered jailbreak yet) when we're confident major ones are coming soon.

So will there be an iPad jailbreak tomorrow? Not likely. But you can bet safely on one being released soon after the 3G models come out, or when the iPhone/iPod Touches get 3.2. iPads are in too many devs hands not to be.

The iPad is pretty epic. The speed and the battery life is sick

So has anyone noticed that Apple has incorporated a six icon dock and batter percentage into the iPad OS. Very very slowly all of our jailbreaking options are trickleing down into official apple firmwares. What would apple do without the jailbreaking community?

      They would make more money

Very true. But can you imagine how much our iDevices would suffer.

I agree. I do not want the jailbreak community to go anywhere

Remember that brief period of time between iPhone os 1.1.4 and 2.0 where the jailbreak community was M.I.A. and installer dropped the ball. Saurik had to pick up the slack and everyone migrated to cydia. Everyone was like "I hate cydia! i cant wait for installer to come back". And now look at how much better the jailbreak is because of guys like Saurik and the good ol Cydia.

Except forward of course. How's the ipad jailbreak treating you?

Agreed. But to be fair, Cydia had issues then. Even now I'm regularly frustrated by it crashing as I queue apps or try to install. Waiting for it to download databases in those situations is a pisser-offer.

Yea it does have some minor issues but at least he's a dev that believes in updating his apps. And i must say Cydia works sooo much better on the 3GS than any other iphone. And im sure its going to fly on the iPad.

its alright. The devs are so stoked about the iPad right now that they all are working double time to get their apps updated. It wont be that long.

Yeah. Been waiting since November. Now that the ipad's out and pretty much everyone who wants one has ordered or gotten one maybe they will release soon. I hope they put a core i5 in the 13in
