  • Robbers Use iPads On Craigslist to Bait and Trap Victims

If you see a cheap iPad on Craigslist, be very careful in pursuing the deal. Robbers located in Uniontown, PA have been using Craigslist to bait and trap potential buyers in non-populated parking lots, where they would then be robbed by armed men instead of being sold the iPad they had intended to buy. The iPads were listed at insanely low prices on Craigslist to draw the victims to the robbers. There is no word yet on the type of iPad being sold or the prices they were listed at.

The victims were pretty shaken up, and it was very clear they were totally unaware of what they were walking into.

If you are traveling somewhere to purchase an item, always do some research on the area you're traveling to and investigate as much as possible about the validity of what you're trying to purchase.
Three victims in total were reported, however there is no word on the robbers being involved with more robberies from the same scam. The robbers are still at large and have yet to be caught, which is bad news for the community around them since one successful robbery can lead the men into a misguided mindset that they can get away with it again. Hopefully, the men are brought to justice before they have the chance to ruin the day of more innocent people.

The iPad market is definitely large and with these rough economic times upon us, desperate people will do almost anything to make a quick buck even rob people. iPad scams have been reported on a global scale, with this robbery event being the latest. There will continue to be more and more iPad scams as long as the device is in large demand because it's easy to take advantage of.

It may be hard to resist an opportunely-priced iPad, however you should be careful when buying iPads on Craigslist, or anywhere else for that matter, for ridiculously low prices; it could be a scam. Never accept a deal from someone online to take place in a lonely parking lot, rather you would be far better off processing a deal in the middle of a populated area where help will be all around you should things go south.

If you are looking for a good deal on an iPad, you should check with your family and friends first, or consider looking on the refurbished section of Apple's Web site. At least with these methods you may spend a little more, but walk out without being harmed.

This is scary. Here i thought there was no way something like this can happen with all the cameras and 'safety' tech we have in place.

Sick, just sick. You would think people would be at the least bit a little suspicious. Nobody sells an iPad for cheap.

This is why you meet them at your bank and withdraw the money after you see the product, and trade in the bank.

I made the mistake of going alone for a deal to purchase a ridiculously cheap ipad2. Went all the way inside the couples apartment. Of course nothing foul happened to me, and the "perfect" condition iPad 2 ended up being a worn out piece of trash iPad 1 with scratches all over it. But this does put into perspective that things could have gone terribly wrong.

Semi related I bought what was advertised as an iPhone4 with a really scratched up screen off Craig's list at a low low price. My intention was to swap out the screen but When I got home I realized the screen was not scratched up at all. It was actually the screen protector. The guy appearanry had no idea he had one on there. Screen was perfect.

These robbers clearly are retards... Why would you try to rob people who try to buy cheap iPads. That just means the buyers prolly aren't that wealthy. Why would you waste time trying to nickel and dime people who aren't wealthy. Smh... I'm not saying I'd do this but if you're going to rob someone, use common sense and not rob someone who can't afford an iPad at full price. No wonder why they are soo poor that they have to steal, cuz they obviously have absolutely no common sense

I don't see your point. Just because they are buying a cheap iPad doesn't mean they don't have a good amount of money. Maybe they just want to save some money instead of spending more money on a new iPad.

I guarantee you more lower income people would jump on this "insanely low price" deal without thinking it could be fake than wealthier people. I bet people who can easily afford an iPad won't risk being ripped off by taking these deals and instead just buy it at full price. I'm stereotyping but it's reality

And this is why I only meet people in very public places when dealing with anyone from craigslist.

People are sucked in every day. Here in Australia a "company" called Quibids advertises on TV - MacBook Pro for $54. Yeah sure. 90% off. Yeah sure. Keep away. Unfortunately it's the them & me world - the haves and the have nots. (And in case you noticed my avatar and say he's a "have" - no I'm not- it's just a picture) And again, unfortunately, there are people who cannot afford luxuries like iPads etc so there will always be that market. What gets me is the scammers allowed to infiltrate Cydia - I go to check out a theme & I'm bombarded with "you're the lucky winner. Claim your prize now. The 100000 person wins an iPad 3. Then you read the fine print to see that by claiming your "prize" you are actually subscribing. How many people have been scammed by this. Yet I don't see topics of this posted in this forum?? It's all robbery.

I have sympathy for the victims but they need to use their brains. If I saw a listing for an iPad at a ridiculously low price, I would ask for pictures ModMyi style. I would ask for a picture with the seller's phone number or e-mail address that I am conversing with written on a piece of paper included in the picture, or typed in on Notes on the iPad.

I bought a lottery ticket on Saturday. I knew I had about one in 48 million chance of winning. But I gave my $10.40. And I think I have brains! Go figure. We all want something for nothing.
