  • Google Acknowledges Gmail IMAP Problems, Fix On the Way

    A number of Gmail users have been experiencing problems with their iOS Gmail accounts, and Google acknowledge the problem and claims a fix is coming.

    While the source of the problem is unknown a significant number of users have received the same “mail service imap.gmail.com is not responding” error message when trying to access their Gmail accounts via Apple’s mail app.

    Google in an email to AllThingsD said they were aware of the problem and are currently working on a fix. In the interim Google has posted the following workaround for frustrated users:

    We are aware of an issue where users are receiving an error that '"imap.gmail.com" is not responding' when using IMAP on their computers, mobile devices, or tablets. We are currently working on resolving this issue.

    In the meantime, you can sign in to Gmail through a web browser. For Android and iOS users, you can also download the Gmail application in the interim. — Google
    So if your iOS mail application isn’t working you’ll have to access your email through an old-fashioned web browser or Google’s own Gmail app. How convenient.

      I've had this issue for years. You can reset your connection and it will work. Go to the mail settings app and turn off the mail slider for the problem account. Then turn it back on. It should work after you do that.

      Still aggravating but at least there's a workaround.

      I don't use the google imap ... Google as exchange FTW ...

      Just use m.google.com as the exchange server during setup!

      I find regular IMAP in the Mail app with Google's mail server address entered works just fine for me.

      It's about time, this has been a problem for a very long time and with much more than just on Apple Mail, it is an issue in Outlook as well and is very account dependent.

      Got this a couple of times, thought it was due to me changing my password, but it has happened several times after, nice to know a fix is coming
