  • Apple Pulls Unpopular 'Genius' Ads From Olympic Games

It isn't often that Apple drops the ball on marketing. But when it comes to a series of ads that the company broadcast excessively during NBC's presentation of the 2012 summer Olympic games, Apple clearly didn't take home the gold for best commercials.

On Tuesday, TBWA/Media/Arts Lab - the company that works with Apple on creating ad campaigns and the commercials we've all seen a gazillion times in recent days - confirms that the iDevice maker has withdrawn its ads from Olympics coverage.

So what's the big deal? As it turns out, a lot of viewers and Apple fans simply didn't like the commercials. They really didn't like the commercials, actually. Some of the unkind words used to describe them cannot even be repeated here. Nonetheless, Apple apparently took heed and yanked the ads.

At this time, however, neither Apple nor its marketing partners will confirm that the removal of the spots come in response to viewer complains. Of course, I don't think we necessarily need anyone to confirm the obvious.

Why change it. Keep it simple, show a hand showing off new apple product. Show us what it does, that's it.

So I had to see the hub-bub. Watched three ads...hmmmm. They're ok, not great, but fine. Seen better and worse. Not gripping or challenging.

That being said, people are such "baby cats" (can I say pussies?). When will the "Romper Rooms" be ready for the general public? Apparently everyone must love everything, no one can be offended, do not dare make me think and let us all make decisions based upon quick, knee-jerk reactions resulting in greater and greater mob mentalities.

Since our society already shuns anyone that references a genius level IQ (see resume etiquette...apparently), I'm guessing this made too many people feel...ahhhhh "shoot"...feel something...

      It was a stupid commercial.
A "Genius" giving advice on doing very basic things...

"Genius" should never been part of the commercial, when a "Genius" doing genius things it would go over most people's head thus waste of valuable commercial time. Should just go back and show how pretty our products are commercial.

But why did people outcry? Why is this a headline? And perhaps most importantly, why oh why am I responding and putting any time into this?

Probably wouldn't have been so bad if they had different Geniuses instead of using the same guy in each ad...making it seem like he's always "Genius-ready" at home at 4am or on an Airplane.

Same here... I don't see what the fuss is all about. It's just a somewhat comical commercial. That's like someone getting upset with "Flo" & the Progressive Insurance commercials... "They make insurance people look stupid...." No, it's just a commercial. Don't get your panties in an uproar....

I think they should stick with showing features of their products rather than those silly Genius commercials they had.

So basically its showing how stupid Apple users are. Hey, sounds like they hit it spot on. Guess their users prefer to be lied to about their stupidity.
