Get a Smaller Notification Banner for the iPhone With 'MiniBanners'
If you remember Banners+ by Rudolf Lichtner
and you liked how it brought Growl-like notifications to the iPad, then you will probably appreciate his newest creation – a free jailbreak tweak called MiniBanners
that brings the same concept to mind on the iPhone and iPod touch. The difference in iOS 5 notification banners is illustrated above.
MiniBanners has no options to configure – instead, it takes over as soon as you install it. Banners will no longer appear Apple’s way and they will instead show up as Growl-like pop-up notifications that can be held down on with one finger to manually dismiss them. The other way to dismiss the pop-up is to open the application by tapping on the banner when it shows up.
The banner doesn’t show any message content. It’s made to use less screen space, so it only shows the essential information, such as the application icon and the sender’s name. If a sender’s name cannot be determined, the pop-up will show the name of the application that the alert is from, just like Apple’s notification banners do.
MiniBanners is going to be subjective because of how it looks. Some people really like Apple’s look more than a Growl-style interface, however some people are just the opposite. On the other hand, the pop-up notification uses a lot less real estate than Apple’s stock notification banners do and it’s free, so it’s worth giving a shot. The tweak is intended for the iPhone and iPod touch. Go and grab it from the ModMyi repo today!
