In case you were unaware, Apple sells an aftermarket iPad connector kit ($29.00) for connecting USB cameras and SD cards to the iPad using the 30-pin connector at the bottom of the device. These same connector kits are unfortunately not compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch, regardless of having the same 30-pin connectors and same operating system as the iPad. It just seems normal that the connector kit should work with all of Apple's iOS devices.
Fortunately, jailbreaking our iOS devices will leave us with a light at the end of the tunnel. iOS developer rms has created a new jailbreak tweak called CameraConnector that will allow the camera connector kit for the iPad to work with the iPhone and iPod touch devices. This means you can view your photos on your digital camera or SD card and save them to your Phone or iPod touch without ever having to connect to a computer.
Obviously so, the jailbreak tweak does not come with these accessories sold by Apple, so you will still need to buy yourself the iPad camera connector kit to actually use it with your iPhone or iPod touch. Luckily, if you own the camera connector kit already, you can just download the CameraConnector jailbreak tweak from Cydia today for just 99¢ and start using it with your iPhone or iPod touch immediately.
In addition to using the tweak for cameras and SD cards, you can use USB keyboards and other USB hardware with your iPhone or iPod touch with this tweak as well. It still requires you to have the hardware from Apple that allows these peripherals to connect to your devices.
CameraConnector requires iOS 5 to be installed and does not have any options to configure. It is live right now in the BigBoss repository.
