  • OS X Mountain Lion Showing Record-Breaking Downloads

Apples recently released Mac operating system, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, has been downloaded more than 3 million times in the first four days of its release. The Cupertino California company announced the stats earlier this morning, stating the following:

Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever.
OS X Mountain Lion was launched on the Mac App Store last Wednesday for $19.99. The upgrade from Lion (or Snow Leopard) includes iCloud integration, a new messaging application, Notification Center, system-wide sharing, Facebook integration, Dictation, AirPlay Mirroring, and Game Center. With more than 3 million copies downloaded in the first four days, Mountain Lion marks the most successful OS X launch in Apples history. Last years Mac OS X 10.7 Lion topped 1 million in the first day of availability, while total sales exceeded 6 million by last October.

The first sign of success for the platform was released on Friday when Chitika Insights revealed that Mountain Lion accounted for 3.2% of all Mac web traffic just 48 hours after being available on the Mac App Store. In just two days, the total usage of Mountain Lion tracked on the web neared that of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger as a whole.

The success is being attributed to the number of features the software comes packed with along with the attractive price point of $19.99. Additionally, for those of you who bought a new Mac after June 11, you are eligible to upgrade to Mountain Lion at no cost.

I love dictation. Personally that's one of the only reasons I got mountain lion.

I think most people only got it for dictation. I think personally that was the best feature anyway.

Have you guys read all the negative reviews on the Appstore? I was going to upgrade, but I heard that many things are unsupported and airplay mirroring is unsupported on older macs [a year old].
