  • This is How Long it Will Take to Install OS X Mountain Lion

As many of you probably already know, Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion was released earlier today. The new Mac operating system which comes packed with a slew of new features that many users were looking forward to having quickly climbed the charts to be the number one download from the Mac App Store. With a price tag of $19.99 it’s quite the sell but for those of you who have not purchased it already, one question might be in mind. How long does it take to install?

Fortunately, a third-party Apple retailer in New York City named Tekserve, recently created a chart that may help answer your question. After clocking the average time each of their machines took to complete the update, they put together this chart for users to have an idea of what to expect. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Apple’s new MacBook Pros with Retina Display were by far the fastest to update with the new MacBook Air models closely behind. The installation speed is a direct result of the Solid State Drives these models come with, which can access data much faster than a standard magnetic hard drive.

For those of you sporting some of the older models, the chart is quick to point out that the iMac and earlier MacBook Pro models with standard hard drives took significantly longer to finish updating. Nonetheless, if you haven’t already upgraded, you can budget your time accordingly by using the chart as a reference.

Just the notion that a single OS can do EVERYTHING is moronic.

That was helpful and all to those people but does anyone know if it works/how long it'll take on a 2011 MacBook Pro 13-inch?

It took about 35-40 minutes to DL & install on Mac mini. I haven't had much time to mess with it, but from what I have messed with I like.
