  • Apple May Provide Adapter for Next Generation iPhone Dock Connector

It has been all but proven that the next generation iPhone will feature a new kind of housing case that is slightly similar to what we use now in the iPhone 4S, but with some noticeable changes. Apart from what looks like a larger screen, different speaker grilles, and different port placement, the dock connector appears to have changed to a smaller design Ė a 19-pin connector instead of the classic 30-pin connector that Apple has used for so long in their device lineup.

The change leaves users wondering what is to become of their existing accessories for their iPhones. Since the new dock connector is reportedly smaller and shaped differently than the current generation iPhone dock connector, it doesnít take a rocket scientist to figure out that itís going to leave a large amount of other companies' third party iPhone accessories useless until new versions of these accessories are produced.

For users that donít feel like shelling out large numbers of dollars out of their pocket for updated third party accessories to go with the new iPhone, good news arises from credible sources, which suggests Apple will be creating their own adapter for the new dock connector. This means users will be able to use their new iPhone with outdated third party accessories without having to upgrade to newer accessories made specifically for the supposed new dock connector.

It is also important to consider that depending on the type of accessory, the adapter may not be sufficient enough to work with it. Some accessories are so tightly molded into the bodily shape of the iPhone that there wouldnít be any room for some kind of adapter. Use of this kind of connector by Apple would be highly subjective, but thatís not to say it would be useless. Backwards compatibility is always welcome.

Knowing Apple, the adapter would likely be sold as a separate part.

That picture doesn't look very genuine to me.

It's called a discussion. People have opinions. If that weren't so, well the world would be a much more boring place. So, just like you're stating your opinion that you don't care whether or not the connector has changed or not, some other people care. Or they just want to talk about it. Nothing wrong with that. Just like nothing is wrong with your opinion either.

It matters to me in a general sense bc Apple is known to pull things like this, rumor or not. It's irritating. It's not the end of the world, yes, but it's irksome.

I am still laughing at this... Although I believe you misspelled a word. Expensive is not spelled "easy".

Lol at this article and all the comments. Last time I checked If I buy a new phone I don't get converters for free. When I got an iPhone 4 all my 3GS cases are obsolete for me.

If they do change the dock connector I would be surprised if there was a converter included for free. But of course will be available for purchase at there store.

Besides that's why I make sure all my portable chargers are USB style chargers. That way I can just get additional cords.

      Anyway my mindless thoughts haha

I like the look of that. Looks very streamlined. I like the black all around the edge and it looks a bit wider than the 4s. My wish for a new iphone is a mini ipad looking device. Just a preference aesthetically for myself. Thinner than the 3gs and wider and longer. But I'll buy the whatever they put out. If that is a prototype I do like what I can see of it.
