SoHo Apple Store Reopening May Provide Clues to Bigger Retail Revamp
On Thursday, Apple confirmed the grand reopening of its SoHo store in Lower Manhattan scheduled for this Saturday, July 14th.
At 10 a.m., when the doors open once again, customers will notice something different - an expanded Genius Bar, more plentiful seating, and more Apple products on display. "The Apple Store, SoHo, is completely redesigned and better than ever," Apple said today. "There are more than twice as many products available for you to try."
"A new state-of-the-art theater with extra seating is the perfect place to enjoy events and workshops," the promotion continues. "We’ve added New York’s first Briefing Room, where you can get to know our Business Team. Even the Genius Bar is bigger, so it’s easier than ever to get an appointment."
As MMi reported
earlier this summer, rumors have been swirling for some time now that Apple is planning a national retail revamp that could deliver more space at the Genius Bar and a more comfortable lounge feeling across the property.
We will definitely get our first look at this concept in action on Saturday when the SoHo store reopens after its renovation. For now, there's no way of telling how widespread this change may go across the Apple retail landscape. But one thing is for sure. There are plenty of Apple stores that aren't large enough to accommodate some of these changes regardless of how desperately they may be needed.
