  • Apple to Combat Jailbreaking with iOS 4.3.1 Update, Says BGR

A slight iOS "tweak" is expected to be rolled out from Apple within the next two weeks, says a new report from BGR. iOS 4.3.1 for the iPhone and iPad could be available around the 1st of April. The update will supposedly address minor bugs and security holes. The "minor bug fixes," however, allude to a fix that would patch a vulnerability that enabled the freshly unveiled iPad 2 to be jailbroken so quickly after its release just ten short days ago.

Also on tap for iOS 4.3.1 are:
    • Baseband updates for the 3GS and 1st generation iPad
    • Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem
    • Fixed problem with NTLM authentication in apps and on websites
    • Fixed issue with the Springboard and 3rd party apps not recognizing the gyroscope on the iPad 2
Few other details about the rumored iOS update are known, particularly with regard to Apple possibly bringing its updated OS to Verizon iPhone's 4. Only weeks old itself, iOS 4.3 serves up a host of improvements, ranging from more secure in-app purchase controls and beefed-up Safari Web browser, to personal hotspots for tethering a 3G data connection over Wi-Fi and support for AirPlay in third-party apps. Such a prompt update to 4.3.1 likely suggests a knee-jerk reaction on the part of Apple to patch the vulnerabilities that continue to be exploited for jailbreaking purposes.

Semi-tethered means the jailbroken isn't completely tethered, most likely untethered. There
is the use of two exploits making it half tethered half untethered.

Some of the time whilst rebooting there will be the need to reboot using the quickb00t feature of our jailbreak. The video of our jailbreak is on youtube. one of our developer and friend of mine jeremiah posted a little proof of the jailbreak [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxPqlAEAtAw]YouTube - Ac1dRa1n: iOS 4.3 Jailbreak[/ame] i created the dfu exploit, made some bundles, and loader.app for the jailbreak

Jailbreaking cannot be stopped, Apple should stop trying and embrace it

I know we're off-topic, but Im excited that my dev team and i have contributed to make our own semi-tethered one click jailbreak solution ac1dra1n. one of my threads asks what hfsplus we need to have it in order to complete the jailbreak.

Exactly, but I actually like my iPhone for its true purpose isn't anything wrong with that. I love it for games and music

All I really care about at this time is 1) if/when the i5 is coming and 2) how long will it take for ME, not the dev teams but ME, to JB it once I have one. I have decided to put all my eggs in the i5 basket instead of getting an i4 since my contract just expired two weeks ago.
Sorry, but this IS actually news. I am on the VeriPhone and I wanted to hear it.

Those who follow the jb community closely will know that 4.3 was hacked through safari at the pwn2own conference a couple weeks ago by a hacker known as oxcharlie. The rules of the contest is that you give up the exploit to the manufacturer. However,
      You pocket about $20,000.

It does not mean they have comex exploit. Oxcharlie tweeted ten days ago he was expecting 4.3.1.

Those rules are stupid but this hack could be used for black-hat hackers for malicious uses.

Well whatever. I tried 4.3 and yeah the new safari engine is like the Ferrari of mobile browsers that's the only feature 4.3 really had me interested in. Most Cydia apps are going to need to be tweaked to work on 4.3 from my experience. In all honesty, I wish Apple would wake up and realize that there's probably 100k plus people who wouldn't own an iPhone if we couldn't have a jailbreak. I'd have an iPod Classic and be rocking some sort of Android phone.

Here is my article. It's easy reading.

Why wouldn't you? All in all iPhone is a great phone jb or not. I am not jb right now and I could jailbreak my device in a heartbeat. But I love my phone more jailbroken so not arguing just wondering why you wouldn't own it

The number of people who jailbreak or even know what it is, are a minuscule percentage of iPhone owners. The iPhone would be exactly as popular as it is now without ever being able to jailbreak.
