  • iOS 6 Adds New Safari Error Page

Apple is making a lot of changes to their amazing mobile operating system (iOS) in both functionality and also in cosmetic appearance including the user interface, versatile status bar colors, and even the metallic knobs that are sensitive to how you hold the device in three-dimensional space.

Another small, but pleasant change we’ve noticed is that Mobile Safari now has its own page for when it fails to open a Web page. It used to be that Safari would prompt you letting you know that the browser was unable to open a Web page either due to a failing internet connection or due to a server being down. The change to the browser helps illustrate Apple’s attention to particularly small details, which helps to make iOS a fun operating system to use.

The new error indicator is shown above on the right-hand side with a great-looking non-alert appearance style that is less obtrusive than the old method. This is because the old alert method would require the user's attention to dismiss the alert before they could get on with their Internet browsing experience. With the new design, the user can automatically get right back to trying to load the page again or they can just try loading a different page.

The new error message style matches that of the Safari Web browser for Mac OS X, although it uses the square iOS application icon engraving style instead of the round Mac OS X style application icon that is shown in the Mac OS X version of the browser when a page cannot be loaded. In addition, the title bar now displays, “cannot open page” instead of saying “untitled” when a page cannot be opened.

...I dont think thats just ios 6 cause im on ios5 and got that error today i think they just made safaris servers update cause that could just be an error that the server sends to you and its a popup and the screen. unless the files are physically in the iphone its just safari servers not ios 6

btw why are you in private modeO.O

I would have to doubt that. I just ran a test and here is the internet error (alert style – not embedded style) on iOS 5.1.1:

The error message, is the same wording. Cosmetically there is a big difference in how they display. One is in an alert bubble, while iOS 6 displays it within the browser.

How about just a status bar update. I don't want to have to navigate out of a web page im using. Nor do I want to have to touch the screen haha! Just give me the status and go away. Oh well maybe in iOS 7 :]

But then you'd say that if he talked about the other features...

Tell me this doesn't count as one of the 200 new features.

      Now I see xD

I would like it if they changed the error pages for YouTube and the App Store too.

I think it is great that they are making changes to minor things even if it seems trivial to some people

Well, it's about time they do that anyways. Some things haven't seen an update since iOS 3.0

      3.0 is ancient..

      You don't say? lol

I've always thought Apple should add something like SBSettings to the system, it'd be awesome

It's small things like this that make me happy lol. The big changes are nice but the small changes count too. I like this new error a lot, although I would prefer no error at all lol.

And just to add, tested my iOS 5 and got the standard pop up notification, so I do believe this is an iOS 6 change.
