  • iFixit iPad 2 Teardown Reveals Few Surprises

The good people at iFixit have completed their teardown of Apple's new iPad 2. And the broad consensus in response to the tablet's disembowelment is clear. Indeed, there are few surprises to be found beneath the hood of the new iPad 2. As chronicled by the iFixit team in their teardown and subsequent highlight video (see above), the most attention-worthy discoveries of the teardown are largely limited to the dwindling sizes of iPad parts and components.

As we all know, the iPad 2 is thinner and sleeker than its predecessor. What the teardown shows is that the new tablet's glass screen is markedly thinner in particular, a development that similarly lends to the reduced weight of the refreshed tablet. Conversely, only one day removed from the device's launch, it's certainly far too early to adequately assess whether the newer, thinner glass display will prove less durable than the first-gen iPad's display.

In addition to pointing out that globs of glue are used this time around to keep much of the iPad 2 in place, iFixit confirms that the iPad 2 delivers 512 MB of RAM, a dual-core processor that appears to be from Samsung, and the tablet's new battery (a 3.8V, 25 watt-hour unit) represents only a minimal improvement over the first iPad's battery (24.8 watt-hours). The fact that you decided not to buy it because of "No retina display" is just ******* retarded.
Not it isn't. The thing needs a better display.

Worth the upgrade yes. For those of us that want the benefit of the new processor and graphics upgrades and all that other jazz. But for the casual web surfer and email user it wont be worth the upgrade.
      So to each their own.

No need to call people names on here just because your opinion differs from here. Think before you type.
Now if I had 600 some dollars to blow, I'd pick that up.

She's cute, but has nowhere near the techie + hotness combination that many of you seem to give her. I still think @Veronica has her crushed.

Well to be honest I could live with out the techie part I'd rather have my girl about as bright as box of rocks

If you mean retina resolution apps.
Then yes it can run all of the iPhone 4's retina apps. If you mean screen res than it's not something even in laptops yet.

I like her because she is smart. Plus pretty darn good looking too.

I think most of the posts in this thread are about the girl and not the product. Haha

They didn't have to go retina. A simple bump up in resolution would have been nice. My Xoom is running 1280x800 and it looks sweet. It's ratio is 16:9 however, and I am not sure that would work on the iPad's 4:3.
The power is there and I am sure this will be a selling point of the iPad 3.
