  • Display Recording Application Live In the App Store

Non-jailbreakers can finally have the functionality of recording their iOS device display in real time with a new App Store application that functions similarly to a popular jailbreak application in Cydia dubbed Display Recorder by Ryan Petrich. Understandably so, the App Store version is also called Display Recorder and you can find it on sale in the App Store for $1.99 from this link – the application is not affiliated with Ryan Petrich in any way and was developed by a software firm called BUGUN Software Co., Ltd.

Display Recording is such a popular functionality because it allows you to capture instances of your iOS device display in video format instead of just screenshots, which are just pictures. This kind of functionality is great for showing people how to do things or for making gaming videos to share with your friends.

Display Recorder (the App Store version, of course) has a decent looking interface:

You can find a pause button, for simply pausing your recording and resuming later, as well as a stop button, which will end the recording and save the video to the application. It also has a time indicator to tell you exactly how long the recording is.

From the list shown above, you can see a list of all your previously recorded videos in an organized list. You can even edit fields such as the title, add a description, add keywords, choose a category, and choose to mark the video as private right from the application. You can also upload the video right to YouTube, export the video to your Camera Roll, or open the application from another application (such as Dropbox) right from the Display Recorder application.

The application isn’t shy of settings either. The whole range of options to configure for your video recording is outlined below:

    Record Type:
    • Audio & Video
    • Video Only
    • Audio Only

    Max Duration:

Since the application probably breaks a number of the App Store’s rules, it is likely that the application could be pulled soon. If you have always wanted the ability to record your display without a jailbreak, we would recommend grabbing this application while you still can. The jailbreak alternative will cost you $4.99 versus the App Store’s version being $1.99, however the jailbreak alternative is a better application because of the features.

Try playing with the settings a little more. You can get good performance with it if you don't max the settings out.

Ironically, but understandably so, the App Store version is also called Display Recorder
Please explain how that is remotely ironic.

Because it seems to be a recent trending practice that App Store developers are copying names from Cydia. Two in one week.

I still haven't figured out how apps which appear to break app store rules so blatantly get into the store.

Honestly, I don't think Apple checks them by hand.

Ryan petrich should have gotten a patent on the name.

I bought this just in case it gets pulled and/or I lose my jailbreak and need this. $1.99 is worth it IMHO. Already have Display Recorder (jb) and that's pretty awesome too.

Yeah, I know. When I read the description of this I thought it was system audio but it only records mic.

When I record games I need to connect to my PC to record the audio and it's just a big hassle.

That wasn't the definition of irony. That was my explanation for using the word.

I wouldn't say that. It does record sloppy videos, where Display Recorder from Cydia does a good smooth job. However, the interface is much more beautiful (in my opinion) than Display Recorder from Cydia.

Yup, Cydia kind of started it all (Installer was first ), App Store just catching up with jailbreakers that have taken control of their devices since the beginning.
No respect though, actually calling it the same.................infringement again?

But I don't think petrich has a patent on the name. It's pretty general..

Well, I hope he does. Not sure how you would know that, but I love Ryan's tweaks and have always supported him.
I realize this app has many more features but to me just doesn't seem right, but what do I know?
