  • Display Recording Application Live In the App Store

Non-jailbreakers can finally have the functionality of recording their iOS device display in real time with a new App Store application that functions similarly to a popular jailbreak application in Cydia dubbed Display Recorder by Ryan Petrich. Understandably so, the App Store version is also called Display Recorder and you can find it on sale in the App Store for $1.99 from this link – the application is not affiliated with Ryan Petrich in any way and was developed by a software firm called BUGUN Software Co., Ltd.

Display Recording is such a popular functionality because it allows you to capture instances of your iOS device display in video format instead of just screenshots, which are just pictures. This kind of functionality is great for showing people how to do things or for making gaming videos to share with your friends.

Display Recorder (the App Store version, of course) has a decent looking interface:

You can find a pause button, for simply pausing your recording and resuming later, as well as a stop button, which will end the recording and save the video to the application. It also has a time indicator to tell you exactly how long the recording is.

From the list shown above, you can see a list of all your previously recorded videos in an organized list. You can even edit fields such as the title, add a description, add keywords, choose a category, and choose to mark the video as private right from the application. You can also upload the video right to YouTube, export the video to your Camera Roll, or open the application from another application (such as Dropbox) right from the Display Recorder application.

The application isn’t shy of settings either. The whole range of options to configure for your video recording is outlined below:

    Record Type:
    • Audio & Video
    • Video Only
    • Audio Only

    Max Duration:

Since the application probably breaks a number of the App Store’s rules, it is likely that the application could be pulled soon. If you have always wanted the ability to record your display without a jailbreak, we would recommend grabbing this application while you still can. The jailbreak alternative will cost you $4.99 versus the App Store’s version being $1.99, however the jailbreak alternative is a better application because of the features.

With the default settings it seems to run pretty smoothly on my 4s .. it's got a little bit of chop to it but it's acceptable, I don't think I've used the Cydia version though, I'll give that a shot and compare them.. This is certainly excellent for those who aren't jailbroken.

I just tried the Cydia version and it seems no smoother to me .. the only bonus with the Cydia version I noticed is it records your finger taps.. The app store version wins hands down due to the slick interface and ease of use.. they both seemed to perform equally on my device

      Cydia version doesn't 'skip.'

You have to also take your dual core processor into consideration.

Come on Anthony... Hardware doesn't have anything to do with software. We all know this...

this is so typical. the only way for the app store to continue to grow is to start allowing apps in that previously would have been banned. its a pisstake!

Looks like the application got pulled from the App Store. How unfortunate.

They kept doing that recently. Approving an app then suddenly taking it back. I really think that the approval process is just a bot. Then gets tested and rebuked later on.
