  • Apple Releases GarageBand and iMovie for iPad, Updates iMovie for iPhone 4

As expected with the launch of iOS 4.3, Apple has released iPad-specific versions of its popular applications GarageBand and iMovie. iMovie is now a universal application, that works with the iPad, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4th generation. It will obviously also work with the iPad 2 upon its release tomorrow.

    New features of iMovie include:
    • Multi-touch editing with iPad
    • Multitrack audio editing
    • Sharing in HD to YouTube, Vimeo, CNN iReport, and Facebook
    • AirPlay support
    • Project Transfers
    • Fade Effects

iMovie is not available for the original iPad. However, many of these are new features work for the iPhone/iPod touch as well, which still seems to run excellently, even without the dual-core chip that the app was specifically designed for with the iPad 2.

The all-new GarageBand app is iPad-only. But we're getting reports that it works flawlessly on the original iPad, which is great news for users who aren't sure they're ready to upgrade.

    Features of GarageBand include:
    • Playing your iPad like a musical instrument, including touch sensitivity.
    • Record your voice
    • Smart Instruments
    • Multi-Track audio editing
    • Use of built-in mixer
    • Sharing via email, add to iTunes on Mac or PC

Both applications are available in the App Store now.

UPDATE: 9to5 Mac is reporting that you can, in fact, install iMovie on the original iPad without a jailbreak. Here's a link to that article.
