  • Add Some Unique Animations to SpringBoard With 'SpringRolls'

Customization is always a popular aspect of the jailbreaking scene. Because of this, Cydia is packed with all kinds of modifications that can be used to sway you away from Apple's stock appearance. With a new jailbreak tweak dubbed SpringRolls by iOS developer greensnow, you can enable different kinds of animations for application badges, folders, and toy around with your application icon layouts.

The demonstration video above helps to illustrate how the tweak animates SpringBoard to make your iPhone better than your friend’s stock iPhone. You can see just how lively it makes the home screen. SpringRolls has many kinds of different animations – all of which can be switched around from the preferences pane that you will find in the Settings application once you install SpringRolls. The preferences pane is shown below in all of its glory:

The first section of the preferences pane that you see has to do with the home screen in general. With this section, you can adjust the icon layout to hold anywhere from 1-12 icons horizontally (rows) or 1-12 icons vertically (columns). You can also set a maximum amount of icons per page, which is adjustable anywhere from 1-75. There are no animations for the general home screen section and you will have to enable this section for its changes to work. You can disable the section to disable all of your selected preferences at any time.

The next section has to do solely with the dock on the home screen. There is the switch to enable or disable your settings at any time and then right below the switch is a picker for selecting the amount of icons you want to show on the dock – anywhere from 1-12. It will have the same appearance, as adjusting the amount of icons per row on your home screen as there are no columns in the dock.

After the dock, you will find a section that is related to the folders on your home screen. You will find a switch for enabling and disabling your settings for folders in this section and under that you will find selectors for adjusting the number of application icons for either the rows or the columns – anywhere from 1-12.

Under these three main sections are some miscellaneous options. The first option allows you to enable or disable the dock, the second option allows you to enable or disable application or folder icon labels, and another option allows you to choose to use the red delete box (like those in the multitasking App Switcher when you close out of apps) when deleting applications from the home screen instead of the black delete box. Apart from these options, you can select any of the following animations for the badges or folders on the home screen:

    Badge Animations
    1. Disabled
    2. Down and Up
    3. Spin Fast
    4. Spin Medium
    5. Spin Slow
    6. Fade
    7. Flippy

    Folder Animations
    1. Disabled
    2. Down and Up
    3. Spin Fast
    4. Spin Medium
    5. Spin Slow
    6. Fade

After you finish tinkering with your SpringRolls’ settings, you must tap on the Respring button to respring the device and save your settings. If you don’t, your preferences won’t take effect. Under the respring button is a complementary instructions link!

SpringRolls is worth the investment if you love customization, however people that like leaving the stock look of iOS how it is will probably want to stay away from SpringRolls. For the dollar you are paying for the tweak, you are getting a fair share of settings that Apple never would have given you in the first place. SpringRolls works on the iPhone, iPod touch, and the iPad and is compatible with Gridlock, Infinifolders, and Barrel!Everything works how it was meant to, so be sure to check this out if it looks like it could brighten up your iOS device!

It's definitely a cool app for those who like customizing their phones. I bought it and I like it. The only thing is it reminds me of another tweak my girlfriend used to have that I loved but never took the time to buy. I can't remember what it was called but it animated your icons like this. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Edit: the tweak is called Motion. I apparently did get the time to purchase it. The only thing I don't like about SpringRolls is that the effects don't apply to the app icons, just the folders. Atleast from what I've seen.

Seems a bit buggy to me. I dont like when you choose to have 7 plus icons in the dock, it kinda jumbles them all together instead of evenly spacing them out kinda like infinidock. And it doesnt seem to be compatible with multiiconmover. Also when trying to move icons around the springboard to another pages they seem to vanish into neverland somewhere. Probably just many bugs to work out. Ill try it again somedy in a future upade.

This is cool. One thing missing is the ability to animate all the icons. Is there any plan to add this ?

"fingers crossed" would love to see all my icons spinning or flipping.

Anybody else update and get completely screwed up. Folders are messed up, barrel stopped working, etc.
