  • These Are The Foxconn Factory Workers' 13 Commandments

Some lucky new MacBook Pro buyer found a little Foxconn gem packaged with his shiny new laptop. He found a card with 13 rules written on it, presumably left in the box by a Foxconn factory worker. Gizmodo has coined the information printed on the card the “13 Commandments of Foxconn.”

Translated, the commandments are as follows:

Four codes to live by while working at the factory
    1. Discipline.
    2. Tidiness.
    3. Organization (basically means how you organize stuff to improve work efficiency).
    4. Cleanliness.

    Work ethics
    1. Always be ready for any challenges you might stumble across.
    2. Always have a plan.
    3. Prepare alternate solutions for problems you might encounter.
    4. Give 110%.
    5. Enjoy the fruits of your labour, aim higher the next time.

    1. Those who are gonna touch components or motherboards should wear static bracelet.
    2. Before changing to a new pipeline check Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and quality checking. Also make sure "target type" is loaded. Read once more to make sure.
    3. Ensure that the parts you have in hand are the correct ones before assembling.
    4. Make sure your work is done before changing shift, and put this card on the machine you just worked on before leaving.
The “commandments” are reminiscent of rules used in many large HROs (high reliability organizations). However, the fifth commandment under “work ethics” is culturally relevant and depressing at the same time. How high can one aim higher next time, when their "next time" consists of repeating the same menial task throughout a 100 hour work week?

Can't help but read "aim higher next time" as being a jab against those who have tried to jump off the buildings

I'm thinking a worker was trying to sneak it in the package hoping it would make its way to the web/press. I think it is kind of weird they make the worker leave the card at Foxconn when they end their shift. Most large companies trying in instill a particular culture would want their employees to take that card home so they can continually think about it on and off the job.

It was probably just a mistake but I figured I'd throw the idea out there

No, they remembered to, but the next guy forgot to take it off, that's how it ended up getting shipped.

know whats funny is how media focuses on foxconn even though foxconn has some of the best factory conditions in china and has one of the lowest suicide rates. sure its a horrible thing but the way some of you fall for the press is infuriating.

And they receive 110% in return for giving 110%?
