  • Six Things About iOS 6 That Will Disappoint Some iOS Users

Yes, iOS 6 looks pretty new and shiny right now, but donít think for a second that itís perfect. There are some key points that could leave a lot of iOS users unhappy with the update if they don't put some time and consideration into leaving iOS 5 for the beta.

    1. No Jailbreak
Probably the biggest one: iOS 6 doesnít have a jailbreak yet. If you plan on upgrading, you can kiss your jailbreak goodbye until you either downgrade back to iOS 5, or until a tethered or untethered jailbreak tool is released. It is likely that a tethered jailbreak will be released for A4 devices on iOS 6 beta, however many jailbreak tweaks and Cydia included probably arenít stable enough to run on the new operating system just yet.

    2. App Store App Compatibility Could Take A While
Some App Store applications could work as expected, but some may try to perform their functions and just crash in iOS 6. Many applications will have to be updated to work with iOS 6ís new features, such as Facebook integration. There are many things in iOS 6 that are not the same as in iOS 4 and iOS 5 that could cause an application to be unstable. It is recommended that you only download applications that have been confirmed to work on iOS 6 to avoid issues that could cause inconveniences.

    3. No Original iPad Support
The original iPad is not supported by iOS 6. This is extremely unfortunate, and also very odd, since the iPad has an A4 processor like the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Yet, the iPhone 3GS, with its outdated processor, still gets the iOS 6 upgrade. Orginal iPad owners will be stuck on iOS 5, unfortunately. The original iPad sold very well, so it puts a good fraction of people at a loss.

    4. No Siri On iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4/iPod touch 4G/iPad 2
We all wanted Apple to open up Siri capability on all devices. Spire helped prove that all of the iOS 5 devices were capable of running the virtual assistant. She is both fun to play with as she is useful for giving directions and fetching answers to math problems. While Apple was generous enough to bring Siri to the new iPad, there is no technical reason that they couldnít have brought her to at least the iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

    5. Flyover And Turn-By-Turn Navigation For Limited Devices
This is probably one of the coolest features that iOS 6 will be bringing to the table; the ability to see cities up from above in high definition view, and the ability to turn your Maps application into a fully-functional GPS application that can guide you to your destination with voice as you move forward. Unfortunately, Apple has decided to bottleneck these features to only the iPad 2, the new iPad, and the iPhone 4S. It's probably understandable, considering that these 3-D views demand a bunch of processor and graphics-hungry functions, however it's likely that the iPhone 4 would be capable of rendering them just fine. Unfortunately, if you still use an iPhone 4 (or even an iPhone 3GS), you cannot use turn-by-turn navigation.

    6. Passbook Adds Another Potentially Useless App Icon
If you werenít a fan of Newsstand in iOS 5, then you probably hid Newsstand from your home screen with a jailbreak tweak like Springtomize 2. Unfortunately, iOS 6 comes with yet another application icon that not too many people are likely going to use. Not everyone likes to associate his or her easy-to-lose iPhone with money and important information. With Passbook, you can use your iPhone to manage your gift cards or airplane tickets. Apple should have known that not every iPhone owner rides airplanes or manages gift cards every single day.

If there is anything else about iOS 6 that you think could be a disappointment, be sure to let us know and it may end up in our list!

Really? to anyone? I don't even jailbreak anymore haven't done since the release of iOS5. My phone is much more stable for it as well. I don't need custom themes to make my phone look "cool" or make it more "usable", alot of people i know have also stopped jailbreaking as there just isn't that much need for it. The only thing I did find handy was infinifolders. I barely used anything else from Cydia.

As for iOS6 slightly underwhelming, Apple should release iPhone iOS-US as so many features they implement are useless to people in the rest of the world. I still can't ask siri most things as it doesn't work.

That's why we have Cydia bro. It has lots of Siri addons and enhancements. Jailbreaking is worth it to me.

Sure and I can understand that some people like Siri and like to jailbreak for certain features they feel they need. But a non jailbroken iPhone is along way from being useless. Which is what i was responding to a Sweeping, gross generalisation.

I can agree with that. The iPhone SDK is amazing in my opinion, it just about sets everything else on fire. It's a long way away from useless without being jailbroken, but it's a long way away from being fully customizable without being jailbroken.

The biggest disappointment to me is lack of Streetview in Maps - if Google can get that in to the App store the rest of the objections are temporary or irrelevant. It might be nice to have new features on older devices but we don't. It's no worse than it was before.
iOS6 adds new features - the only area where it actually fails is taking away Streetview - if that can be rectified I will update - when a JB is available, of course.

People jailbreak for a reason really, because Apple fails at letting us customize our devices and install custom stuff to it.

marketing. why would apple put new technology in older devices? they want to sell more new devices. i don't think apple realizes that people - especially iphone users - have choices. i guess apple didn't learn from its recent history of near bankruptcy.

Idiots, every damn one of you. You're upset because Apple just b!tch-slapped you with an unreasonably crippled iOS upgrade, but you're still going to go buy the next new iPhone. Idiots. If my employer wasn't paying for my phone, I never would have bothered with the iPhone for this very reason. Business as usual for Apple.

I can't wait. Please, leave AT&T! Once enough of you leave, they'll be forced to compete to keep me again. I miss pre-iPhone AT&T, the AT&T that actually gave a sh!t about losing a customer to another provider. Apple completely killed that with their initial AT&T exclusivity.

I think you have a very good point here. It would be nice to password protect apps like photos, videos,
mail, messages and so on. Also iCloud should support apps settings and levels backup and phone settings backup. I should be able to choose what i can back up.

AT&T is screwed. They won't do anything anymore, they just think business comes to them. It's not how it works.

If I ever upgrade to 6.0 (which sounds like a downgrade to me) I will be in ifile deleting all the twitter, Nike-iPod, stocks, newsstand, passport and all the other things forced onto my screen and into my phones precious innards... Hiding an icon for something I will NEVER use doesn't cut it for me... I don't want to see any trace of these things... If I wasn't a jailbr***er fo life and didn't have ifile I would be so annoyed with the inability to remove stock apps! If you search the web for info on completely removing say the stocks app you will see many sites and forums that will tell you that you cannot remove pre-installed apps in their entirety... What is this world coming to when you are forced to have apps you don't want on a phone or tablet you paid $200-900 bucks for... And the only way to remove is to find your way around the file system they don't want want you to see let alone modify... And I'm sorry to the twitter people but I don't want or need more twitter integration... I have never followed anyone on twitter and have never tweeted even the slightest of tweets... I don't want to be forced to have twitter integation...
