  • Six Things About iOS 6 That Will Disappoint Some iOS Users

Yes, iOS 6 looks pretty new and shiny right now, but donít think for a second that itís perfect. There are some key points that could leave a lot of iOS users unhappy with the update if they don't put some time and consideration into leaving iOS 5 for the beta.

    1. No Jailbreak
Probably the biggest one: iOS 6 doesnít have a jailbreak yet. If you plan on upgrading, you can kiss your jailbreak goodbye until you either downgrade back to iOS 5, or until a tethered or untethered jailbreak tool is released. It is likely that a tethered jailbreak will be released for A4 devices on iOS 6 beta, however many jailbreak tweaks and Cydia included probably arenít stable enough to run on the new operating system just yet.

    2. App Store App Compatibility Could Take A While
Some App Store applications could work as expected, but some may try to perform their functions and just crash in iOS 6. Many applications will have to be updated to work with iOS 6ís new features, such as Facebook integration. There are many things in iOS 6 that are not the same as in iOS 4 and iOS 5 that could cause an application to be unstable. It is recommended that you only download applications that have been confirmed to work on iOS 6 to avoid issues that could cause inconveniences.

    3. No Original iPad Support
The original iPad is not supported by iOS 6. This is extremely unfortunate, and also very odd, since the iPad has an A4 processor like the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Yet, the iPhone 3GS, with its outdated processor, still gets the iOS 6 upgrade. Orginal iPad owners will be stuck on iOS 5, unfortunately. The original iPad sold very well, so it puts a good fraction of people at a loss.

    4. No Siri On iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4/iPod touch 4G/iPad 2
We all wanted Apple to open up Siri capability on all devices. Spire helped prove that all of the iOS 5 devices were capable of running the virtual assistant. She is both fun to play with as she is useful for giving directions and fetching answers to math problems. While Apple was generous enough to bring Siri to the new iPad, there is no technical reason that they couldnít have brought her to at least the iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

    5. Flyover And Turn-By-Turn Navigation For Limited Devices
This is probably one of the coolest features that iOS 6 will be bringing to the table; the ability to see cities up from above in high definition view, and the ability to turn your Maps application into a fully-functional GPS application that can guide you to your destination with voice as you move forward. Unfortunately, Apple has decided to bottleneck these features to only the iPad 2, the new iPad, and the iPhone 4S. It's probably understandable, considering that these 3-D views demand a bunch of processor and graphics-hungry functions, however it's likely that the iPhone 4 would be capable of rendering them just fine. Unfortunately, if you still use an iPhone 4 (or even an iPhone 3GS), you cannot use turn-by-turn navigation.

    6. Passbook Adds Another Potentially Useless App Icon
If you werenít a fan of Newsstand in iOS 5, then you probably hid Newsstand from your home screen with a jailbreak tweak like Springtomize 2. Unfortunately, iOS 6 comes with yet another application icon that not too many people are likely going to use. Not everyone likes to associate his or her easy-to-lose iPhone with money and important information. With Passbook, you can use your iPhone to manage your gift cards or airplane tickets. Apple should have known that not every iPhone owner rides airplanes or manages gift cards every single day.

If there is anything else about iOS 6 that you think could be a disappointment, be sure to let us know and it may end up in our list!

Problems 1 and 2 were useless to put up though, that's for all of the iOSs (plural iOS lol) when they first come out.

I think this will make what happens later this year more interesting. Many of the upset iPhone 4 users who can't use many of ios 6's features will b looking to upgrade iPhones (me included). I surely don't want a year-old 4s so when they release a new model, many iPhone 4 users will be all over it. Then there's the AT&T contracts that will be expiring soon for original iPhone 4 users around the same time. The AT&T exodus is coming!

To be honest I use Android and Ios on a dailey basis. I have a Galaxy nexus on android 4.0.4 and a Glaxy Tab on 4.0.4. My wife has an HTC Thunderbolt (not ativated anymore) an Iphone 4S jailbroken and my son has the Ipad3 jailbroken. Im the tech savy one in the house and use all of these devices regularly. To me android is the clear choice on smartphones and has been running just fine since android 2.3. On the other hand Ios is the obvious choice to me for tablets. The only time ive seen people complain about Android is when they purchased **** devices thats there fault for not doing a 5 minutes google search. Lets the Andoroid and Apple fanboys continue the bashing lol.

You know like the old maps directions. I'm sorry for cursing but this Bull. Passbook looks amazing and I'm looking forward to that.

I read the maps thing correctly.
Navigon works great on my iphone 4, no lag, nice voice and 3d maps. I love it!

I thought the exact same thing. Why are they trying to point out negatives for this awesome release? We all know that it doesn't have a JB, we're not stupid....it hasn't even been released. I think all these new features are great, they've made iOS that much better! As for iOS 6 not working on some devices, that's just the way it goes, old devices get washed out eventually, everyone does this. At least it's not Android where every other phone is running a different OS version and all the new devices that come out don't always get the latest and greatest. iOS 6 is awesome, Apple really did a good job with it!

      1. Jailbreak will eventually come out.

      2. App Store Apps will be updated by devs, not a big deal.

      3. No Original iPad Support is odd but Apple does as they see fit.

      4. I'm sure a iOS 6 Siri port will come out.

      5. I'm sure a Tweak will come out to activate Flyover And Turn-By-Turn Navigation.

      6. I'm sure Springtomize will be updated to hide this Icon, again not a big deal.

I'm more disappointed at the list of Features so far, Seems like iOS 5.2 to me, haaha

If you have a jailbroken device there are a number of tweaks in cydia that allow you to do that: DisableLaunch, Applocker, LockDown and many more. Also if you install BiteSMS which allows you to reply and create text messages anywhere, and i mean anywhere!! lockscreen, springboard in apps, you can change the privacy settings so it only show the message not the name or vice versa or show nothing until you unlock. Hope this helps!

Here I am, actually wishing Apple sherlocked MORE from the jailbreak community. Oh well.

Lol yah I couldn't agree more, only I don't have an original iPad so it doesn't affect me as much as the unsupported turn by turn navigation iPhone 4.

MuscleNerd just tweeted that he found exploits leading to a jailbreak. Not expected to come anytime soon though.

I think someone should try the new iOS6 maps while driving in an Edge area and then compare it to Google maps to see which performs the best. Don't forget if you buy a TomTom sat nav, you have the maps data already installed. I can't see TomTom allowing the maps data To be pre installed in iOS6. Also, I for one will miss Googles Street View, hope someone does a tweak for it.

MuscleNerd just announced it, iOS 6 was jailbroken but it's very unstable. It'll be awhile before it's out.

It is never wise to criticize Anthony, or any of his articles. When one unleashes the Negativity one never knows where (or if) it will end. I too am looking forward to being able to walk into a Starbucks with my iPod charged and ready!

(though, only to grab at the "free stuff" table, with some useless iTunes app or another...)
