Have you ever wanted to change the color or your iOS dock to something that matched your tastes? Or maybe you have a theme that doesn’t affect the dock installed and the stock look of the iOS dock just isn’t cutting it. A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed DockColorize by iOS developer gil ben moshe will allow you to change not only the color of your iOS dock, but also the color of the linen background in the multitasking App Switcher.

The colors that come with this tweak are limited to six built-in colors – these include black, pink, purple, blue, green, and yellow. As these are the built-in colors, the developer also offers you the ability to add your own colors manually. This can be done by navigating to /Library/ApplicationSupport/DockColorize/ through an SSH client and putting your own colored dock .png file into that folder. You can put both dock and multitasking App Switcher images in this folder.
For those of you that don’t want to worry about using SSH to manually use colors that aren’t available, you can choose to use any of the six pre-loaded colors instead. Unfortunately, changing the color of the dock or the multitasking App Switcher is also a pain. The developer doesn’t give you a list of colors to choose from and use. Instead, you have to manually type in the name of the file pertaining to the color you want. Then you have to find your own respring method as the developer doesn't give you one. You can use SBSettings, IntelliScreenX, Springtomize 2, or another method to respring, or you can reboot, which takes even longer.
For the dock colors, you must type in any of the following file names to use them:
- Black - "dockBlack.png"
- Pink - "PinkDock.png"
- Purple - "PurpleDock.png"
- Blue - "BlueDock.png"
- Green - "GreenDock.png"
- Yellow - "YellowDock.png"
For the multitasking App Switcher colors, you must type in any of the following file names to use them:
- Black - "LinenBlack.png"
- Pink - "LinenPink.png"
- Purple - "LinenPurple.png"
- Blue - "LinenBlue.png"
- Green - "LinenGreen.png"
- Yellow - "LinenYellow.png"
The preferences pane where you enable and disable the tweak on demand and change your dock or multitasking App Switcher colors is shown below:

These colorization options give you a lot of flexibility for tricking out your iOS device the way you have always wanted to. There are a fair share of stock colors for both boys and girls. It would be better for the future of the tweak if the developer offered a color picker instead of putting the burden of typing out file names on the user. If you want to change your dock or multitasking App Switcher colors, give DockColorize a try. It is absolutely free!
