Leaked Document Challenges MacBook Retina Display Rumors
A spec sheet leaked today casts doubt on 9t5Mac’s report yesterday that the new 13” MacBook would feature a retina display.
The leaked document, pictured above, lists the specs of the upcoming 13” MacBook Pro and for the most part they match what the rumor mill has spit out over the last few months: updated processors, Thunderbolt port, and two USB 3.0 ports. However, a few key differences from the rumors to note: the display resolution, and physical dimensions.
The display resolution is the same 1280x800 pixels as the current 13” MacBook Pro, which is in contrast to claims that the updated 13” model would feature a high-resolution Retina Display. Also, the dimensions haven’t changed. Rumors of Apple introducing a redesigned MacBook Pro have been rampant, and many expect it to happen. The unchanged dimensions mean the particular model mentioned won’t be a part of that redesign.
Now, if the rumor is true (anyones guess) this information points to a few different outcomes. One, Apple isn’t redesigning anything, isn’t updating the their laptop displays, and is essentially giving everyone an incremental product refresh. Two, this is a spec sheet from a legacy item, and Apple is updating their MacBook Pro line with new 13” and 15” Retina Display enabled models that lack a physical media drive, and feature a redesigned chassis. Three, Apple is reserving the retina display for its MBA, and higher end MacBook pro models.
Either way, WWDC is days away and soon all the posturing, guessing and leaks won’t mean a thing.
