  • New Report Claims Apple Updating Entire Mac Arsenal at WWDC

    WWDC is going to be like the monkey exhibit at the zoo, except instead of slinging poo at the fawning public Apple is throwing $2,000 gadgets and hoping something sticks.

    So what happens when WWDC falls outside of the announcement schedule for iPhone, and iPad updates? Apple updates everything else in their aresenal to compensate according to 9to5Mac.

    While it is widely assumed Apple will reveal new MacBook Pros at WWDC, 9to5Mac’s report adds to the mix new MacBook Airs (including retina 13” and 11” models in addition to the rumored 15” model), an iMac Refresh, and if Steve Jobs soul has any mercy a Mac Pro update/refresh.

    The MacBook update will include two configurations of the 15” model, how these will differ isn’t clear and what will happen to the 13” model is even less apparent. Although, it would make sense that the MBA 15” model, or 13” models could absorb this sector of Apple’s product line.

    The second announcement at WWDC will be the improved Retina-Display MBAs. The third announcement will be an iMac refresh with the requisite processor and graphics increases, but 9to5Mac claims it is “unclear” if any design or display changes will accompany the refresh. Retina Display iMacs? Yes Please.

    The final and fourth announcement will be an update for either the Mac mini or the Mac Pro. Both are due for an update, especially the ancient Mac Pro which hasn’t seen an update in nearly two years. Rumors of Apple dropping the Mac Pro line have swirled in the last year as the company continues to ignore the professional market space. If Apple updates the Mini, with no mention of the Mac Pro, then it might be the death knell for the Mac Pro.

    The technology fan inside of me is screaming in delight at the prospect of Apple doing half of what 9to5Mac claims they will but, the pessimistic (logical) tech writer constantly reminds me to temper expectations knowing rumors like this have a way of ruining announcements for everyone.

    This is likely why Apple never talks about future products. It keeps the fans and writers guessing, and catapults the weakest “unnamed source” into the annals of rumor history as we feed on the smallest bits of information.

      Hopefully they all get updated as mentioned. It'd be really nice to see an updated Mac Pro, MBP, and iMac. That's a lot of retina displays if that's what Apple decides to do

      Retina Display iMac would be ridiculous. I also just bought one this year so I'll be pretty bummed I missed out on it.

      If they get retina displays isn't the thunderbolt display going to be upgraded too? Let's hope so, cause my plan is to get Mac minis and an external drive and one really nice display and just replace the Mac minis over the years

      Quick question here;

      How long until unveiling will these products actually be released? e.g. If they're unveiled in June, probably won't be able to purchase 'till August/September, huh?

      I hope they do update the Mac Mini and the Macbook Pro. I have being holding from buying the Mac Mini and the 17" Macbook Pro cause of the update. Specialy the Mac Mini, it's really need a major update to the CPU, and I dont get why the Mac Mini Server get the Quad-Core i7 and no option to pick a highert or more powerful CPU.
