  • Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 Released

The popular jailbreaking application, redsn0w, is back in the game now with support for the latest untethered jailbreak for all devices running iOS 5.1.1 in version 0.9.12b1. Redsn0w will now jailbreak the iPad, iPad 2, the new iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G. The jailbreak implement’s pod2g’s Rocky Racoon untethered jailbreak method that was released with the Absinthe jailbreak tool for iOS 5.1.1.

With redsn0w being updated for the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak, Windows users can now pick between three tools – Absinthe, sn0wbreeze, or redsn0w. Mac users can pick between either Absinthe or redsn0w. Redsn0w and Absinthe will jailbreak all of the iOS 5.1.1 devices with just one click of a button without the need to enter DFU mode, while sn0wbreeze will only jailbreak A4 and earlier devices with the need to create a custom firmware and then use pwned DFU mode to install the jailbreak.

Using the new redsn0w, A4 and earlier iOS devices can have the Rocky Racoon untethered jailbreak installed one of two ways: backup and restore method – the way Absinthe installs it, or via ramdisk – this method is explained by the iPhone Dev Team to be safer because it won’t cause issues with iCloud later on:

    • its traditional limera1n-based ramdisk install. If you have a lot of media on your A4 device (music, movies, TV shows, etc), then the ramdisk method is preferrred because it avoids any possibility of later problems related to syncing to iCloud (including Photo Stream and Music Match). The ramdisk method is not available for A5 devices or later because limera1n can’t be used. If you’d like to use redsn0w’s ramdisk method, just be sure to put the A4 device in DFU or Recovery mode before starting redsn0w (otherwise it will immediately start to use the backup/restore method).
In addition to the updated jailbreak, redsn0w also has support for people that took advantage of the SAM unlock, as the ramdisk can now be infused with the SAM tickets you were instructed to save for yourself if you have an iPhone 4 or earlier, or you can upload them after the jailbreak is complete on any iPhone model. Redsn0w can use either the raw activation ticket file, or the .zip file redsn0w created to do this for you.

In other news, ultrasn0w, cinject, and pwnagetool have all been updated to work with iOS 5.1.1 as well. All application downloads are listed below, and untrasn0w can be downloaded directly from Cydia on your jailbroken iOS device. Get downloading!

Does this support the iPad 2 (32nm)? Also known as the $399 iPad 2/32nm iPad 2/ iPad 2,4?

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently Absinthe version 2.0.4 supports the new iPad 2!

Please forgive a stupid question...my girlfriend is back on a 4, and is still back on 4.3.2 (she uses a Gevey unlock for T-Mobile). If I want to jailbreak and then unlock her, do I use Snowbreeze and then Ultrasnow? Or is it Redsnow and then Ultrasnow? Or does it matter?

Thanks in advance for the counsel!

Is there a way to save that and like restore it back into my device after upgrading and rejailbreaking ? All those packages took me a longg time to put in my device and all these other stuff.

I hope I made sense. Really under the weather today. But thanks.

All your purchased packages will be there when you log into your google account but I also go into my list of packages and repo's in Cydia and scroll though and take a screen shot of all my installed packages and repo's. Update my Phone, rejailbreak then install all my packages again. It's time consuming but I like to start fresh.

Did you jailbroke using this newest redsnow?

Anyway if you're already jailbroken just install rocky Racoon from cydia to make it untethered

most likely not the newest 0.9.12b1 as I just did a fresh restore on 5.1.1 and jailbreak on redsn0w 0.9.12b1 with simplicity, no pwned dfu mode
