Music plays a large part of iOS – unfortunately, the ability to control your Music is limited to what Apple finds sufficient. A new Notification Center widget brings music controls to Notification Center with a great-looking interface. The widget, dubbed Jukebox by iOS developer aricha, can be found in Cydia's ModMyi today for 99˘. You can see the widget in the screenshot example above.
The information shown by the widget includes the length of the song, which is shown in the top right hand corner, the song name, album, and artist. You can also see the album art in the left side of the widget.
By tapping on a small play button in the bottom right hand corner of the widget, you’ll bring up a collapsible iPod controls strip, which includes all of your basic controls including play and pause, next and back, and shuffle and repeat buttons. Swiping on the stripe reveals a Tweet song button, music application shortcut, and volume slider. If you don't reveal the strip, you can use swipe and tap gestures – swiping side to side switches tracks and double-tapping plays or pauses the music. Holding down on the widget launches the Music application.
The unfortunate part about the widget is that is currently doesn’t support third party music applications such as Spotify, Pandora, and Grooveshark. However, support for these applications is over half complete and the developer hopes to have a release ready within a week or two. For now, iOS users will have to use this widget with only the stock iOS Music application.
The widget has no options to configure, however you can enable and disable the widget any time that you like to by simply moving it in and out of Notification Center from the Notifications preferences pane and shown below:
If you listen to a lot of music, this widget could be a good asset to have. It works fully with Dashboard X on all iOS devices.
