[Review] ChargingBackground - Display Your Lock Screen Wallpaper When Charging
One thing that is limited in customization is the lock screen of iOS. Itís very simple and clean, however itís even simpler when the device is charging because Apple created the lock screen to display a black background behind the large battery indicator icon. Not only does this make the lock screen more boring because of the lack of color and creativity, but itís just another feature that Apple doesnít want you tinkering with. You know what that means Ė jailbreakers unite!
A new free jailbreak tweak is now live in Cydia dubbed ChargingBackground by iOS developer MPow. The free tweak allows your lock screen wallpaper to show under the large battery indicator icon. Depending on the lock screen wallpaper you are using, the battery could look better or worse than the screenshot example above. Since my wallpaper has colors too close to those in the battery, it doesn't look too great. It's recommended to use darker lock screen backgrounds with this tweak.
All parts of the battery including the green/red filling, silver-colored ends, glass cylinder, and the reflection are visible with this tweak installed.
The tweak gives you the peace of mind of being able to take control of yet another locked-off feature of iOS, however you will have to choose whether or not you like the black default background because there is no way to enable and disable the tweak on demand without uninstalling and reinstalling it. ChargingBackground has no options to configure whatsoever.
Since a lot of iOS device users let the device charge when they arenít using it, for example when they sleep, this mod probably isnít that big of a deal for most. In addition, Apple chose to implement the black background default for a good reason Ė most wallpapers donít look good with the battery laying on top of them. Whether you like the tweak or not, itís free and you can certainly give it a try with your wallpaper!
