  • IPad Prototype With Dual Dock Connectors Up For Auction on Ebay

Want an iPad prototype with a landscape dock connector? Well one can be yours if you ready to shell out over $4,800 in an eBay auction set to end in seven hours.

The prototype appears to confirm rumors and other leaked photos from late 2010 that indicated Apple at point was considering dual dock connectors for the iPad before deciding on a single connector. Apple holds patent applications that show iPads designed with dual portrait and landscape connectors as well.

The prototype iPad also runs Apple’s diagnostic Switchboard software used to test the basic functionality of prototypes. The unit appears to be in near working order with the only aftermarket part installed by the seller being the battery since Apple removed it. However, the screen does not work as one of the clips used to hold the digitizer ribbon down is missing. The seller was able to get the screen to respond to basic touches when holding down the digitizer connector though.

Several of the components and parts feature part numbers and copyright dates preceding the original iPad as well. The regulatory text section on the back of the device contains “X”placeholders for the device’s battery rating, and for the Broadcom Wi-Fi chip as well.

Those with the spare cash will be hard pressed to find a unique Apple collectors item like this anytime soon.

No since it's an Apple application. It's only available to Apple.

for $10K auction you'd think he'd at least wipe his grubby prints off it before taking photos

I know it's over but does anyone else notice that parts of the picture of the ipad are pixelated? Almost as if it was all scratched up when they took the pic.

The seller did an interview with Wired and said he had to cover ups some numbers etched into the device because then it could be traced back to the person that was issued it.
