[Review] Blackout - Always Have A Black Status Bar
It might be a very debatable appearance issue, however it seems some people have issues with Apple’s gray status bar. A good handful of people prefer the black status bar to the gray status bar including iOS developer Adam Bell
. Because of this, a new free jailbreak tweak can be found in Cydia today dubbed Blackout
and it will enable the black status bar everywhere you go in iOS. The screenshots above give you a good depiction of what Blackout actually changes.
Apple’s iconic gray bar can be found not only in iOS, but also in Mac OS. Whether or not some people want to sway away from that design principle is going to make or break finding this tweak useful or not. Since the gray status bar is only visible in some applications, some people might find it to be inconsistent and would rather choose to have one color of status bar throughout iOS.
Some themers might find the darker status bar alternative to be a better fit for their theme than the gray status bar, however if the gray status bar just peeves you in general, then this tweak might also be right for you.
Blackout does not have any options to configure and the only way to disable the tweak after installing it is to uninstall it. The tweak is free, so it gives all iOS users the incentive to download it and try it to see if they prefer seeing the black status bar throughout iOS rather than the hybrid between black and gray. Be sure to let us know what you think; it works exactly as advertised.
