  • Chronic Dev Team Releases Absinthe 2.0

    *UPDATE*
Absinthe 2.0.1 is out fixing a hang up that occurred for in certain situations for some users. Get it here.

The Chronic Deve Team released Absinthe 2.0 today as promised. Let the jailbreaking begin.

The Absinthe jailbreak tool supports the following devices:

    • iPad 1, iPad 2 (2,1—2,2—2,3 ) iPad third generation (3.1—3,2—3,3)
    • iPhone (2,2—3,1—4,1)
    • Support for the newer 32nm iPad 2 (iPad2,4) will be added later.
As usual the jailbreak instructions are as follows:

    1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.
    2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
    3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.
    4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.
    5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
Enjoy the jailbreak and make sure to let @pod2g, @MuscleNerd, or any other member of the Chronic Dev Team know of any problems. Also, make a donation to show your support. Remember these guys do all of this work pro bono.

As of now the Chronic Dev Team servers don't appear to be going into analeptic shock, so downloads should be fairly smooth.

How do I make a custom firmware for my iPhone 4S? I'm still on iOS 5.0 to preserve my baseband, hoping for a software-based unlock. I can't jailbreak with Absinthe because it requires installing iOS 5.1.1 stock first, which will upgrade the baseband. I haven't read anything about PwnageTool or redsn0w supporting the creation of a custom 5.1.1 yet. Thanks.

Sorry folks, don't understand the "shorthand":
      "•iPhone (2,2—3,1—4,1)"

I am trying to get the iPhone model &/or operating system out of this w/o success...
      According to Redmondpie ->

Full list of compatible devices for 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak are as follows:

      iPhone 4S
      iPhone 4
      iPhone 3GS
      iPad (3rd gen)
      iPad 2
      iPad 1
      iPod touch 3G
      iPod touch 4G
      Apple TV 2G

I can confirm that this works. Had the same issue on my GF's iPad 2. All went well with a restore. Thanks mate!

Hi.. am I jailbroken on 5.0.1 on a 4S. Do i need to upgrade to 5.1 on iTunes FIRST and THEN follow the above steps?

iPhone 4s - I didn't get an error, but Absinthe said recovery completed, if you want to retry jb, unplug your device and plug back in. I do not have a cydia icon..

The workaround was to do a clean restore to 5.1.1 (alt - click restore button) and select the ispw. Once restored, re-run the JB app.

I believe you can use redsn0w to create custom fw by going into 'extra' and use tiny umbrella and/or put a '#' in front of any address line in the host file to trick Apple into restore. I even had to do it when trying to restore to 5.1.1 stock fw. Good luck.

      iPhone 4S...

Anyone else getting issues where the progress bar sits just above the first 1 in 2011 and says "waiting for reboot... "... it sits forever and does nothing. If I reboot manually, it errors saying cannot connect to lockdown

Jailbroken on Sprint 4s on 5.1.1, but alot of apps still need to be updated! Themes i were using on 5.0.1 are now giving me the "hash sum mismatch" when trying to install... And some are giving the "1.1 500 internal server error".. Hopefully they get updated soon

So if im on 5.0.1 already jailbroken, is there a program that will make a list of all of my Jailbreak tweaks and other things that will be lost when upgrading to 5.1.1?
That would certainly make getting all of my tweaks back simple. (i know all of the paid ones will be able to be re-downloaded but what if I am unable to remember them all, or what about the free ones? and what about my cydia sources?)
      Thanks for the help!
