  • Chronic Dev Team Releases Absinthe 2.0

    *UPDATE*
Absinthe 2.0.1 is out fixing a hang up that occurred for in certain situations for some users. Get it here.

The Chronic Deve Team released Absinthe 2.0 today as promised. Let the jailbreaking begin.

The Absinthe jailbreak tool supports the following devices:

    • iPad 1, iPad 2 (2,1—2,2—2,3 ) iPad third generation (3.1—3,2—3,3)
    • iPhone (2,2—3,1—4,1)
    • Support for the newer 32nm iPad 2 (iPad2,4) will be added later.
As usual the jailbreak instructions are as follows:

    1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.
    2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
    3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.
    4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.
    5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
Enjoy the jailbreak and make sure to let @pod2g, @MuscleNerd, or any other member of the Chronic Dev Team know of any problems. Also, make a donation to show your support. Remember these guys do all of this work pro bono.

As of now the Chronic Dev Team servers don't appear to be going into analeptic shock, so downloads should be fairly smooth.

Go to itunes, update to 5.1.1 then click on resore (that mike take a while) when the factory settings are restored (the screen where it asks you for location settings) just open Absinthe 2.0 and run it, then do a restore from your back up.

I can confirm this trick works for the iPhone 4s as well thanks!

do what others have suggested. rather than doing the reset in the phone/ipad, open iTunes and click "restore." once it's done (it will take a while, as it redownloads and installs 5.1.1), don't do anything else to the iPad (don't set it up). run absinthe. then set up the iPad and restore it from your most recent backup in iTunes.

      that worked for me.

On windows, you first download a .zip file.

A .exe file is extracted... When you run this, it opens a black command window, and extracts all files to another folder in same location of the .exe

You then need to open the folder, and run Absinthe.exe that's inside!

Also, to those suffering my earlier pain, here is how I have FINALLY jailbroken my iPhone 4S...

Using my Mac, I did Alt-Restore to iOS 5.1.1

I did NOT restore from backup - I setup as a new iPhone, completed the setup on the handset, and allowed it to activate.

I then went into settings, turned off the auto-lock, and turned on airplane mode. I then turned wifi back on & connected to my router (I couldn't remember is absinthe needed internet from handset during JB)

I fired up Parallels Windows 7 Virtual Machine, and ran the Windows version.... low & behold, it worked!! YAY!!!!! (Finally)

Maybe there are more bugs in the OSX release atm than the windows.

Agreed. Definitely restore to factory settings via iTunes first. Also, make sure the phone is activated before proceeding. Worked for me in one shot. I used Absinthe for Mac on a 4S.

I did a mistake as it didn´t said nowhere that the iPhone needed to be activated first. Indeed, it was activate before the "recommended" restore from the device but I cannot activate again my iPhone 4S 5.1.1 Vodafone as I don´t own that microSim anymore, so I am just stuck on thatt. Any idea?

Right it's here at last LOL

I am Jailbroken on 5.0.1 with my iPhone 4s. But is it worth going up to 5.1.1 for better battery ?

Please let me know before I go through it all again
