  • Chronic Dev Team Releases Absinthe 2.0

    *UPDATE*
Absinthe 2.0.1 is out fixing a hang up that occurred for in certain situations for some users. Get it here.

The Chronic Deve Team released Absinthe 2.0 today as promised. Let the jailbreaking begin.

The Absinthe jailbreak tool supports the following devices:

    • iPad 1, iPad 2 (2,1—2,2—2,3 ) iPad third generation (3.1—3,2—3,3)
    • iPhone (2,2—3,1—4,1)
    • Support for the newer 32nm iPad 2 (iPad2,4) will be added later.
As usual the jailbreak instructions are as follows:

    1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.
    2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
    3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.
    4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.
    5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
Enjoy the jailbreak and make sure to let @pod2g, @MuscleNerd, or any other member of the Chronic Dev Team know of any problems. Also, make a donation to show your support. Remember these guys do all of this work pro bono.

As of now the Chronic Dev Team servers don't appear to be going into analeptic shock, so downloads should be fairly smooth.

Looking for suggestions. I have jailbroke iPhone 4 running 5.0.1(9A405).
If 5.1.1(9B208) breaks the Absinthe 2.0.1, What is the best way to update to 5.1.1 and jailbreak?

      Thanks.

Shift (opt) + Restore to 5.1.1 9B206 stock, then jailbreak with Absinthe 2.0.1. Simple. Of course, back everything up.

Can I just backup, upgrade to 5.1.1, jailbreak and restore from a jail broken 5.0 4S? It's the only part of jail breaking that is annoying...

That means you have the unsupported new iPad 2, the iPad
      2,4 or 32nm

For anyone getting stuck on "Waiting to reboot..."

I was getting stuck on this too on Mac OS X, but as soon as I tried Absinthe on Windows XP, the jailbreak worked perfectly! Perhaps there is a bug in the Mac OS X version.

FYI, each time I got stuck on "Waiting to reboot..." and then gave up disconnected, whenever I would reconnect and run Absinthe, I would get a lockdown error. I was able to fix that by re-restoring to factory settings in iTunes.

Why don't you just update to the 9B206 build and use absinthe 2.0.1 to jailbreak

There's no bug in the Mac version, I used my iMac to jb two devices with no issues.

I'm having the same issue. I jb fine with absinthe 2.0.1 but now I can't locate my aptbackup.

Cydia is getting hammered off and on. Sometimes I get server error or hash mismatch, but after a few (or more) times trying I can get it to dl packages. I also had to run Cydia twice yesterday to get it to load Filesystems. Patience, try later tonight when, hopefully, demand will lessen.

ah the good old it ain't working game

tried clearing my setting to make it a fresh "new" phone...gave up after it sat all night and didn't do anything
did a complete update to 5.1.1
      ran absinthe 2.0.1

runs about 10 minutes, then a fail message stating program failed. Tried it with Admin priveledges and still nada.

currently trying to download 5.1.1 again to do a force wipe/install with iTunes. Strangely iTunes deletes the .ipsw file after updating your phone...stupid

      2nd independant post from above

whoops, just found the original .ipsw file...wasn't expecting it there

      3rd independant post from above
      partial success.

did a full restore. got the phone to look/act like a brand new phone straight out the box
applied the absinthe 2.0.1 to it
got a successful hack report, Cydia showed

opened Cydia --> it did it's update thingy --> phone restarted --> now the only icon showing is Newstand...nada for anything else

here goes another hard restore. God I hate it when it's update time

I dont know if anyone else has run into the same issue when using Absinthe 2.0.1 on your ipad 2 (wifi), where it doesn't go to restore and just hangs up on "Waiting to reboot...", but I actually resolved the issue by using a different Apple USB cable. I used the one that came with my ipad and not my iphone one and... BOOM! It worked!!! Hope this helps

      Quick tip....

I fretted with my 3gs for a while with a "fresh" install, absinthe would crash out. I moved to another computer with the same results. I was able to overcome the problem doing this.
1.) Placed it in DFU mode.
      2.) Reinstalled 5.1.1
3.) DID NOT RESTORE from back up rather set it up as a new phone.
      4.) Jailbroken using Absinthe.
5.) Restored from back up and all worked well...
If absinthe stops working win 7 with a 3gs, give that a try...

hats off to podg, worked excellent on my 4!!!!
      thank you!

Each time I ran Absinthe (and it worked both times), I did either a fresh upgrade to 5.1.1 from 5.0.1 (my i4) and simply put the phone to sleep when it completed (just as it asked me to set it up as a new phone or restore from backup), killed iTunes and jailbroke, or, with my stock iPad 3 on 5.1.1, did a Reset as suggested and then did as above. I never let it restore from backup and then try to jb it.
