  • Chronic Dev Team Releases Absinthe 2.0

    *UPDATE*
Absinthe 2.0.1 is out fixing a hang up that occurred for in certain situations for some users. Get it here.

The Chronic Deve Team released Absinthe 2.0 today as promised. Let the jailbreaking begin.

The Absinthe jailbreak tool supports the following devices:

    • iPad 1, iPad 2 (2,1—2,2—2,3 ) iPad third generation (3.1—3,2—3,3)
    • iPhone (2,2—3,1—4,1)
    • Support for the newer 32nm iPad 2 (iPad2,4) will be added later.
As usual the jailbreak instructions are as follows:

    1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.
    2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
    3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.
    4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.
    5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
Enjoy the jailbreak and make sure to let @pod2g, @MuscleNerd, or any other member of the Chronic Dev Team know of any problems. Also, make a donation to show your support. Remember these guys do all of this work pro bono.

As of now the Chronic Dev Team servers don't appear to be going into analeptic shock, so downloads should be fairly smooth.

Rocky Racoon only works on 5.11 - easiest way is to update in iTunes, re-jailbreak with RedSn0w and then run Rocky Racoon -unless you need to preserve your BB of course.
Redsnow doesn't jailbreak iphone 4 S on 5.1.1 even version 0.9.11b4 has the jailbreak button greyed out.

Is there some secret version somewhere?

I'd be happy to be a tester next time. They clearly need testers.

I'm having problems on 9b208. I had it earlier on 9b206 but my iTunes wouldn't load my apps so I had to get them from iCloud. but now absinthe says my device isn't supported.

Absinthe doesn't work on that build yet. Restore back to 9b206.

redsn0w hasn't been publicly updated to support 5.1.1 untethered yet. MuscleNerd even stated so on Twitter yesterday morning. When it does get publicly updated, there's no telling if the iPad 2nd/3rd Gen or 4S will be directly supported in the first few versions. Absinthe (and possibly the Dev Team-authored CLI tool) will be the best option for iPad 2/3 and 4S users for the short term.

Just finished JBing my iPad 3rd Gen... but I have nothing installed yet

Still waiting for my iPhone 4 GSM to finish restoring from backup and I'll redo my tweaks on it first. Kinda stayed up late after work to do these updates.

I just jailbroke my already jailbroken i4 (did my iPad 3 yesterday) and, again, no problems at all. The i4 took a little longer as I had to update to 5.1.1 first, and it's a 32gb while my iPad was already at 5.1.1 (stock) w/16gb. Absolutely no problems. Just zipped along and completed in less than 10 minutes. Sync'd much quicker than my iPad, everything seems to work, letting Cydia do its thing (filesystems took about two minutes!). Again, I can't see why people are reporting so many issues, based on my two experiences. Not saying they don't have them, just wondering what is going on with their systems to cause them.

I'm tired of sitting here waiting for a jailbreak to work for 4 hours now. This is ridiculous. Glad I didn't waste money "donating" to them. I've donated on every jailbreak in the past, but those actually worked.
I find this guys incredible rude. I jailbroke my 4s, my sons iPod and my ipad2 without a problem and every time I started with a clean and fresh device. I have done with a device full of apps and wifi on and didn't work.

You can't jailbreak with a broken lock button. You need to get in DFU mode.

Not sure what's up but ever since I installed the JB 5.11 all seems ok except my iBooks. It said that this JB would support the iBooks but it's not working for me. Anything for this

OK, so I've updated to 5.1.1, no problem. Downloaded Absinth, opened and launched it, no problem. Attempt to JB and I keep getting an error message (A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.). I'm running Windows 7 but it's not telling me WHAT the problem is. I backed up my 4s again and restarted it as well. but Absinth will not JB. HELP PLEEEEASE!

iBooks works fine on my iPad 3. Don't use it on my i4 so can't say about that. And, again, I did both devices with absolutely no issues (using an iMac).

      **UPDATED**

My bad.....after I selected "backup" under my devices name, it finished without any problems. Then I went to my devices "settings", "general", "rest", and "erase all content and settings". After this last step, my iPhone went black and the rotating circle thingy hasnt stopped in 22 minutes. Have I missed a step?
