  • Chronic Dev Team Releases Absinthe 2.0

    *UPDATE*
Absinthe 2.0.1 is out fixing a hang up that occurred for in certain situations for some users. Get it here.

The Chronic Deve Team released Absinthe 2.0 today as promised. Let the jailbreaking begin.

The Absinthe jailbreak tool supports the following devices:

    • iPad 1, iPad 2 (2,1—2,2—2,3 ) iPad third generation (3.1—3,2—3,3)
    • iPhone (2,2—3,1—4,1)
    • Support for the newer 32nm iPad 2 (iPad2,4) will be added later.
As usual the jailbreak instructions are as follows:

    1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.
    2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
    3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.
    4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.
    5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
Enjoy the jailbreak and make sure to let @pod2g, @MuscleNerd, or any other member of the Chronic Dev Team know of any problems. Also, make a donation to show your support. Remember these guys do all of this work pro bono.

As of now the Chronic Dev Team servers don't appear to be going into analeptic shock, so downloads should be fairly smooth.

instead of letting itunes do it for u download it from:
iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From

then put the phone in dfu mode and shift restore to that firmware

make sure to download the 9B206 build if you're on an iphone 4

I was getting this on my iPhone 4 which had previously been tethered on5.1

Just re-jailbreak with RedSn0w and run Rocky Racoon to untether. Worked for me.

Rocky Racoon only works on 5.11 - easiest way is to update in iTunes, re-jailbreak with RedSn0w and then run Rocky Racoon -unless you need to preserve your BB of course.

Jailbroke my iPad 3 with success but it seemed all my apps/photos/music/etc was wiped despite restoring from backup :/
I backed up right before jailbreaking, only to find my apps were wiped. I don't mind my music and photos since I have backups and photo stream, but my apps :/

Have just tried this on my iphone 4 was not working so did a restore through itunes, now my device comes up as unsupported, using absinthe 2.0.1, win7 x64.

      anyone else get this?

      Chris.

Just realised when i did restore through itunes it updated to 9b208 build of 5.1.1 this evidently blocks the jailbreak somehow

Apple released ne FW for the iP4 last night - restore to the older version and it will be fine - or wait until they update Absinthe for the new FW

The main errors affecting users seem to be: "Error detecting device (lockdown error -5)" and "Could not connect to lockdown".

@pod2g and @pimskeks confirmed the problem was a random coincidence that created a timeout. Nevertheless, the fix seems fairly easy. All you have to do is go to "Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content and Settings" and then make sure you download Absinthe 2.0.1 and run it again.

Seems like they are working on 2.0.2 right now. I am reattempting the JB following these steps.

After about an hour of failed attempts, this is how i got it working successfully on three devices:

      1. Download absinthe and extract all the files
      2. Back up your device
      3. Restore your device and update to iOS 5.1.1 if not already
      4. Open up absinthe from its folder, but dont remove it from its folder (on W7 it, for some reason, it wouldn't recognize any device of absinthe was taken out of its folder)
      5. It should identify your device now, and just click jailbreak, it should only take about 2 minutes
      6. Open up itunes when its done, and restore your device from your previously made backup
      7. You should now be jailbroken and have all of your stuff back

I was able to JB 5.11 on 4s without any problems. Now when I try to reinstall my cydia apps I am getting cannot locate package. There are no packages in bigboss repository. I reloaded, rebooted without any success. Any suggestions?
