  • TSA Looking to Buy $3 Million in Apple Products

The TSA wants to spend nearly $3 million on 1,000 Apple computers and 1,000 handheld devices to support its counter terrorism efforts (combat boredom) according recently uncovered documents.

The TSA recently filed contract documents explaining why it would pursue Apple only contracts instead of opening the bid up to multiple manufacturers. According to the filing the devices would enhance a “widening secure mobile computing pilot” program that specifically calls for the user of iOS.

The document is littered with descriptions of how devices like iPads, iPhones, and even AppleTVs would be used in training presentations, forensic investigations, iPhone application development, video and graphics production and finally security testing. I didn’t realize the TSA had such a necessity for video and graphics productions. Perhaps they want to cut together all the x-ray security screenings into some montage of privacy invasion for internal meetings.

The document, pictured below, does in fact hint at future initiatives that could utilize Google’s Android platform. For now though, the TSA is looking to become one giant annoying Apple family.

I'm one of few rational humans in this country that understand this is not sustainable. Terrorism has killed 3,000 people in America in 11 years. House fires have killed about 30,000. Street gangs have killed about 10,000. Yet we don't spend a trillion dollars trying to stop them. We do however, spend over 1.3T per year on defense and security. To put that in perspective, the federal tax revenue is about 3.1T, and the GDP is around 14.5T. That is not a reasonable amount of money to spend. I'm sure you do like you cozy gubbermint job where you basically can't get fired and get paid 40% more than the private equivalent. I know. But I don't like it. And a few others are coming around to libertarian views which would see your agency and virtually every other one like it shut down.
Your giving statistics based on accidents(which cant be predicted) and local homicides and crimes of passion in which local police forces are designed for.
Terrorism however is planned, calculated attacks from both foreign and domestic entities which can be stopped by collaboration of multiple governments and agencies such as the TSA and those like it. Comparing terrorism to domestic crimes or accidental deaths in house fires is ludicrous and reaching at straws.

There are several steps that have to be taken in order for a terroristic attack to take place in both research, planning and execution.. If you stop it at any point in the chain the plot is thwarted completely or delayed. TSA is one of the multiple layers of defense and is proved effective weather you chose to acknowledge it or not.

Oilfield. I'm an inspector and supervised. It happens some, but it's also REALLY easy to get fired. So it's limited. We also aren't using taxpayer dollars, OR violating rights in the name of safety frum thuh turrrrrists.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree. I think terrorism is fake. I think our civil liberties are systematically being eliminated. Not you personally, sir, but your agency is another brick in the global militarized empire. I respect you and your willingness to serve and best intentions.

The reason it isn't treated like a bomb is because liquid based explosives when already mixed and assembled are extremely volitle and unstable. It's hard to carry such an item and most terrorists won't' due to the risk of premature detonationt. But if you carry the multiple liquid components with you separately, in a stable state, you can mix and assemble it on the other side of security or on the plane.

Anyhow I respect your stance as we are all entitled to our own opinion so we can exit this conversation as gentlemen and agree to disagree.

The gun was partly stuffed inside a stuffed Mickey Mouse. Specifically, the barrel and slide were inside Mickey, the receiver in a teddy bear, and the magazine and rounds inside a third, unspecified stuffed critter."

This is one of many instances. I am not your run of the mill screener. I get briefings on happenings that the public does not hear. And it happens more often than you know. I'm truely unsure if we aren't allowed to share this or if the media just doesn't like to give us kudos but we find and thwart a lot of things.

Here is one example of terrorist using children...
"An eight-year-old girl was given a bag of explosives by Taliban militants and told to take them to a police station in southern Afghanistan but was killed when the bag exploded, the government said Sunday. There were no reports of police casualties."

      Terrorist using elderly in wheelchair...
"BAGHDAD — A suicide bomber in a wheelchair blew himself up at the entrance to a police station north of the city yesterday, killing three people and wounding 18, officials said."

These things happen often. Don't be ignorant.
Get a life and a real career! You do the same same crap over and over and over... You're a freaking security guard who doesn't need a degree. In other words, you're just another body who can be replaced at the drop of a dime!

Niether do cops or people joining the military, but you dont talk smack about them im sure... But contrary to what you think in my particular position with TSA I do need a degree or an equivalent enforcement background to compensate.

Time to end this crap right now.

With OR without the TSA this country has bigger issues to deal with then just whether or not John Doe is carrying ammonium nitrate in his butt crack. I still worry how we will survive at the rate this country is tearing itself apart from within.

We're so worried that terrorists and third-world regimes will take over this country that nobody stopped to think about the fact that there might not even be a United States left to take over by the time they get around to it.

Our masters have divided us with social issues and by having a huge number on the payroll who will, of course, defend their livelihood when it's value, purpose or legality is called into question. The SCARY thing is, on the MAJOR issues, the path of the nation remains unchanged regardless of who is elected. Wars, crapitolism collusion between corporations and government. The ONLY hope of restoring prosperity and liberty in America, is to get back to adhering to the constitution and fast. If you limit the favors for sale, you stop the vast majority of fraud overnight.

Ok, I'm with you that there are other issues in the world more important than TSA and wether you feel they are effective or required. But as far as TSA is concerned there is nothing more important than making sure that no weapons/explosives get aboard an aircraft. That is mission one.
I don't see how TSA is responsible or even remotely related to your statement of the country tearing itself apart from within.

You're not paying attention. I'm not saying the TSA is responsible for anything, I'm saying that there are more important things to worry about than bickering about the TSA. They are just people trained to do a job. Are some of their methods questionable? Yes they are. Is their very existence questionable? Maybe, maybe not. But they are here and apparently it looks like they will be here to stay for quite a while. So there is no use complaining about something that you are not going to change.

And there lies your problem. Somehow I can't shake the feeling that the government is trying to destroy the Constitution and the very principles this country was founded upon and make the people more dependent on the government for survival.

That's a terrible thing to say to someone trying to make a living in this screwed up economy. What do you do for a living that gives you the right to criticize another man for doing his job to support himself and his family?

It's been going on for generations. The wars on poverty, drugs and terrorism have not proved fruitful. Are the urban ghettos not worse now than ever? Are drugs any harder to find? Why is the violence in Afghanistan escalating after a decade? And why are all of these things dire emergencies for which we must sacrifice our rights for the benefit of the majority? The most absolutely rudimentary of queries into the topic will lay the facts on the table. Just as Kruschev could not force corn to grow in Siberia, neither can we kill an opinion, legislate fairness or declare what citizens will do to their minds in the privacy of their homes. Laws of government must not break laws of physics or Natural Law, upon which the Constitution (and obviously, America in general) was based upon.
