  • Pod2g and MuscleNerd Publish Jailbreak 5.1.1 FAQ, Users Can Safely Upgrade to 5.1.1

"You can safely upgrade to 5.1.1 now if you want to be ready" Pod2g tweeted after reposting a Jailbreak 5.1.1 FAQ MuscleNerd published earlier today.

As usual unlockers who want to preserve their baseband should hold off on the upgrade to 5.1.1. Below is the FAQ in its entirety.

    • All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements
    • @pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
@planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
    • The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
    • Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
    • For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: paypal
    • Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).
It appears the release of the 5.1.1 jailbreak is imminent, but MuscleNerd is careful to note that the timing is "indeterminate." Nothing worse than setting deadline and missing it, especially with something as unpredictable as a jailbreak.

Hmmm think I might sell my ATV3 soon, I'm getting less optimistic of a jailbreak by the day and this thing is useless without it.

I was afraid of that. Guess I'll have to look at other unlock options.

Meh, there's nothing in 5.1.1 worth updating for. I think I'll keep 5.1 for now. I'm looking forward to the jailbreak - I'll donate for sure once it's released

It really should be stressed that if you're on 5.0.1/5.0.1b and jail broken (untethered), there really is nothing to be gained by jumping to 5.1.1.

So Spite doesn't work as well as Spire?

And Spire won't work on 5.1.1?

Is Spire going to be updated to work on 5.1.1?

      Thank you

one thing: music app goes 200 times faster, especially at the lock screen. it'll be worth it. I just hope all the tweaks I've paid for work on 5.1.1! hopefully Celeste does..

I'm pretty sure the dev hasn't found a legal way to do it, so don't expect it.

Dude, read the posts. The guy asked why spire wouldn't get an update to work with 5.1/5.1.1, I pointed him to that article because it explains the situation perfectly.

I know spite works with 5.1.x but he was talking about spire.

I'm curious what has stumped these folks on the new firmware found with the ATV3?

From what I saw from one of the devs ( forget who or when, sorry ) .. they said it had to do with the fact that the ATV firmware is stripped down from the regular iOS .. which means there's not as many things to target exploits at.. it's a leaner iOS with only what it needs..

Yes I want to know this too. I have iPhone 4s on 5.0.1 jailbroken and want to know the best and safest way to update to 5.1.1. Thank you.

Safest way would be to do it in iTunes. Always a chance an OTA update will leave you in boot loop, especially if jailbroken.

I for one can't wait. I was lucky enough to have my blobs for 5.0.1, but the battery drain with the 4s is so unbearable I have gone back to my iP4. with my 4s on 5.0.1, my battery would only last about 12 hours. It seems t be a lot better on 5.1.1, but I need to be jailbroken!

However, jailbreaks for 5.x have come and gone, and still no information on the unlock. So I can't even jailbreak it because they keep saying to stay on your current firmware to preserve the baseband.
      What about Sam unlock?

Battery issues? And on AT&T's network I think.. We get random calls where no voice is active and you cant hear what the person is saying on the other side.
