  • Pod2g and MuscleNerd Publish Jailbreak 5.1.1 FAQ, Users Can Safely Upgrade to 5.1.1

"You can safely upgrade to 5.1.1 now if you want to be ready" Pod2g tweeted after reposting a Jailbreak 5.1.1 FAQ MuscleNerd published earlier today.

As usual unlockers who want to preserve their baseband should hold off on the upgrade to 5.1.1. Below is the FAQ in its entirety.

    • All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements
    • @pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
@planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
    • The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
    • Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
    • For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: paypal
    • Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).
It appears the release of the 5.1.1 jailbreak is imminent, but MuscleNerd is careful to note that the timing is "indeterminate." Nothing worse than setting deadline and missing it, especially with something as unpredictable as a jailbreak.

what lukeduke is talking about is the corona package that was downloadable through cydia for ppl on tethered jailbreaks

Corona was just an untether for existing Jailbreaks, it is not a jailbreak itself. Absinthe 2 will be a new jailbreak available as a stand alone JB or, I believe, it will be incorporated in the next RedSn0w.

Interestingly HITB have updated from 'Jailbreak will be released this week to:
We told you over the weekend that the untethered jailbreak for iOS devices running iOS 5.1.1 is dropping this week. The hacker who’s been spearheading the upcoming jailbreak, pod2g of the Chronic Dev Team, confirmed that the jailbreak was nearly done and arriving in a “matter of days.”

Coincidentally, the Chronic Dev Team will be presenting at the annual Hack in the Box (HITB) conference this week in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Since the 5.1.1. jailbreak is expected to drop this week, we’re placing bets on a release this Friday during the team’s keynote.

Make a backup in iTunes. Then restore to 5.1.1. Jailbreak with absinthe 2.0

So I synch with iTunes, right-click my idevice's name, & select backup. Then I select 'restore' on the iTunes screen. Now....I do have apt backup. Should I use that FIRST and then do the previous-mentioned stuff OR.....should I dl the stuff ya'll mentioned first and THEN do the "backup" under my name and then select "restore" on the iTunes page? Sorry to be such a bother. You never would've guessed I'm a "virgin" to this sort of stuff.

Any news on whether this will patch up iBooks or not? 'Cause I was crushed when I got my iPad (first gen) on 5.1 and found out that iBooks didn't work.

Thre are work arrounds but Absinthe 2 doesn't have a problem with iBooks.

After I do all that, then do I go to Cydia.com and update?

Oh and will I have to re-purchase Cydia again to update the untethered jb via Absinthe 2.0?

When you restore jailbreak with absinthe 2.0. Then use pkgbackup to get those tweaks back.

Only use one of them. They're both basically the same thing.
