Siri just happens to be a handy little iPhone assistant, however the interface has very limited functions. iOS developer Adam McNight figured he would change that with the release of a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed SiriGole. The tweak adds three touch-based gestures to Siri, which makes the assistant a little more functional. The gestures are illustrated by the animated gif image above.
In case you couldnít follow the animated gif image, the gestures added to the interface are mapped out below:
- Swipe the microphone icon to the left to open Siri's settings from the Settings application
- Swipe the microphone icon to the right to clear the current conversation
- Hold down on the microphone icon to close the Siri interface completely
Deciding whether or not the tweak will be helpful to you is subjective to your own individual Siri uses. The option to quickly get to Siriís settings is great for people that want to easily disable Siri or change Siriís language on the fly without the need to navigate through the maze that is the Settings application. The ability to clear the conversation is great if you have said something you might consider embarrassing and donít want other people to see. The gesture to easily exit Siri can also be done with the home button, however not everyone likes using a button on a touch screen device.
It is important to note that Siri must be in full-declared mode (full-screen) to use the swipe gestures. Holding down on the microphone icon to close Siri can be done both in full-declared mode and when Siri is only about the size of the multitasking App Switcher. Trying to use the swipe gestures while in the smaller mode will yield no helpful results.
SiriGole works with any iPhone 4S or any iOS device with the Spire Siri port. Since Siri is an iOS 5-only assistant, your iOS device must be running iOS 5 to install this tweak. Everything works as advertised and the tweak is recommended to any Siri users that might find these shortcuts helpful. Itís free, so you can try it out and see if it will find a comfortable home on your iOS device.
