  • Apple Sends Out Invites to March 2nd iPad 2 Unveiling

Following Tuesday's unconfirmed reports of a possible March 2nd Apple media event, on Wednesday Apple began sending out invites to the event scheduled for 10:00 am at Apple's beloved stomping grounds of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California. As clearly indicated by the graphic art emblazoned on the invitation, the March 2nd event will yield our first official look at the second generation iPad.

Now just days away from the big reveal, the blogosphere is buzzing with rampant speculation about new features inbound to the refreshed Apple tablet. The most obvious and widely anticipated updates include a front-facing camera for FaceTime video chats, a slimmer body, and an improved display. Of course, just because we're going to get our first look at the iPad 2 next week doesn't mean we'll be able to get our hands on it just as quickly. Rumors of potential production setbacks - while denied by some - remain persistent. Regardless, Apple will all but certainly let us know what timetables we're looking at as of March 2nd.

I use it with my sister who recently moved. Lets her see and talk to my daughter, however we usually use skype at home on the computer.

I use it quite a bit actually and it saves time when I do, i.e. if my wife sends me to the store for something but she's not sure which kind of "something" she wants so when I get there rather than take a photo and send it to her then her look at it and call me to say yay or nay and then me potentially having to do that all over again should she say nay, I can just (with my3g enabled) facetime and be done with it.

How about iMac ? I wanted to order an iMac 27inch i7 yesterday but I thought I should wait for 2 weeks and see if they will announce anything about it.

Exactly, a stationary webcam is much easier for video calls than using hte phone.

Using it at the store is akin to using it at a jobsite, where it's much more convenient to show the offices what is going on, but those seem to be situations that only a small percentage of people would require it.

Lol, my brother and I use it when we talk to each other just so we can say that we use it. Other than that I wouldn't use it very often.

Yeah to be honest I think the whole front facing camera is more of a bragging rights kinda thing- you can't even take decent pics with it with because of the crap resolution.

On a side note: there's a cool iPhone app called holotoy- it seems like it's still a work in progress but the idea is VERY cool- it uses head tracking (via front facing camera) to determie the angle at which you're looking at the screen to give you a corresponding view (relative to your position) to create sort of a pseudo 3D image. Very interesting concept

Ditto, I travel a lot and I use it all the time. My daughter has a iPod and it works great. My wife's and my iPhone 4g are happily JB with my3g so.... we use it all the time. Also friends call from overseas for free using it.
