While it may not be in everyone’s taste to have a blank home screen page at the beginning of the home screen pages, a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed HomeSpringPage by iOS developer deVbug will let you have a blank page as your first home screen page. While the tweak could seem quite useless and non-practical from a first glance, the tweak could actually be more useful than meets the eye.
With the recently released jailbreak tweak Dashboard X, by iOS developer Ori Kadosh, HomeSpringPage could be a great jailbreak tweak because it gives you a free first home screen page to add any of your Notification Center or Dashboard X widgets to. In this sense, it gives you a nice opening page to unlock your iOS device to and then allows you to page through your home screen pages to reach your applications.
With HomeSpringPage installed, you will be able to move applications to your first empty page, but if you remove the applications from the page, the empty page will not disappear after exiting jiggle mode. Normally when you have an empty page on your iOS home screen after moving applications, the empty page does not remain after you exit jiggle mode. By default, the tweak will move all of your first page applications to the second page of applications and move all other applications one page over accordingly.
A nice feature for the future of this tweak could be the ability to choose which page will be empty instead of defaulting to the first page. This would give the user the flexibility to have either their widgets on their first page or their favorite applications and perhaps have their widgets on their second page instead. If you don't have Dashboard X installed, this tweak probably won't seem useful to you, but if you do have Dashboard X, then be sure to give it a shot!
Note: the tweak does seem to cause a few seconds of lag when unlocking the iPod touch used in testing. The same issue was not present when installed on an iPhone.
