    [As always, jailbreakers should proceed with caution and know to avoid updating if you are presently running a jailbroken device]

    On Monday, Apple released iOS 5.1.1. Seemingly more bug, performance, and security glitch-related than the last iOS update from March, which delivered Japanese language support for Siri and lock screen access to the iDevice's native Camera application, here's what Apple is serving up with iOS 5.1.1:
    • Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
    • Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
    • Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
    • Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
    • Fixes an issue where 'Unable to purchase' alert could be displayed after successful purchase

    More info, naturally, is available at Apple security updates

    Known as Build 9B206, iOS 5.1.1, is available for the:
    • The iPad 1,2, and 3
    • iPhone 4S
    • iPhone 4
    • iPhone 3GS
    • iPod touch: fourth and third-generation

      I surrendered to the jailbreak war last year--when I switched to Android. I got so tired of the cat-and-mouse jailbreak-me-if-you-can wars.

      I jail broke my iphone 4 with redsnow and ipsw 5.1.1 works fine on mine i didnt have to download 5.1 ipsw works with 5.1.1

      So I gotta question for someone...

      If you have full shsh blobs for 5.0.1 saved on your iphone 4 but the Apticket is missing from those blobs, what does that mean? Can you still create a custom firmware and stitch the blobs up?

      Reason I ask is because I gotta iphone 4 with 5.0.1 blobs but Apticket missing. I stiched my firmware up with those blobs but the jailbreak is semi-tethered, After the restore I rebooted, and it becomes tethered, reboot it becomes untethered, wtf??

      FYI ion1c twitted with a picture of his jaibroken ipad 3 on 5.1.1 And since then his twitter acct was hacked!

      This is good news but what I want to know is, is there any news about a 5.1 jailbreak for a iPhone 4s on sprint?

      It's supposedly being worked on. But hopefully Apple didn't patched the exploit on this update

      When I updated to 3.1.3 a few years back I didn't have my phone activated... I knew nothing of unlocking and jailbreaking... Days after being on 3.1.3 I learned I could unlock and went to T-Mobile to get a data only (unlimited) sim card... Thought I was golden and Jailbroke to unlock thru Cydia only to find I was screwed... I waited 4-5 months for that unlock... Never again have I trusted updates until after there are untethered jailbreaks available... I would not have had iPhones over the years if it wasn't for being Jailbroken... Stock iPhones don't feel or look right... I don't even want to be above 4.2.8 until maybe some 6.0 thing... Updates are lame... Learn to save and use your shsh and tinyumbrella

      i wonder what they're going to do with those exploits now? i had a feeling apple would update 5.1 before an untethered jb would be made public.
      anyway, does anyone know if the 5.1.1 update updates the bb as well? ... and, if i update to 5.1.1 just for the shsh, will i be able to come back to my wonderful 5.0.1?

      Only the baseband on the 4S was updated.
      No need to go to 5.1.1 to save your SHSH. Just wait for tiny umbrella to be updated and then you can save your 5.1.1 SHSH without needing to update.

      The iPad's BB has been updated but not the iPhones' AFAIK.
      Apple know about downgrading but haven't fixed it, but you don't need to upgrade to grab your Blobs, just use RedSn0w to do it for you.

      if the apticket is missing, i would say that the blob is not a full set. however, if you're using 5.0.1, you can get a full blob set by dumping what you have using redsn0w, tb or ifaith.

      For firmware Apple is no longer signing then yes, you would have to sump your SHSH with iFaith or redsnow to get the APTicket and everything needed for restoring. For firmware Apple is signing (5.1.1 right now) tiny umbrella can save the SHSH and APTicket without having to be on that firmware. Once Tiny umbrella is updated to save 5.1.1 SHSH of course, which should be soon.

      dude, ios 5 gives you imessage. my wife and i are in different countries, and we use it all the time. even though her cellular service is suspended (military service) she can still imessage me over wifi, and korea has wifi everywhere!
