[Review] TopLabels - Move Application Labels to the Top of the Icon
Apple’s placement of the application icon labels seemed pretty decent to me, however it seems there are some people that just want the application icon labels on the top of the application icons rather than under the application icons. If you think you are one of these people, then a new jailbreak tweak has hit the Cydia store dubbed TopLabels
by iOS developer PrimeCode to move your application icon label toward the top of the application icon as illustrated in the screenshots above.
The tweak really needs to be put into perspective to be appreciated. Right off the bat, many people will not find this tweak practical because it doesn’t look good with the stock iOS appearance. The tweak could be used with a theme where the icon colors and textures would benefit from this appearance more than the way it does in the screenshots above. One of the screenshots by the developer in the tweak’s Cydia description is a prime example.
Taking a more analytic view of the tweak, it’s easy to notice how the application icon labels are harder to see since they have to appear over whatever color the application icon might be. At least the way Apple had it, the labels were always easy to see if you had a decent home screen wallpaper and the wallpaper could be changed where the application icons can't be without WinterBoard.
Since there are no options to configure for TopLabels, the tweak has to look good from the start or else it's not going to work out for the user. This jailbreak tweak cannot adjust the placement of the labels, nor can it tweak the color of the labels, making it a hit or miss for many themes and application icons.
