  • iPhone Maps to get Turn-by-turn Voice Navigation via Cydia Tweak

A new Cydia tweak that will allow iPhone users to get turn-by-turn voice navigation directly from Apple's native Google Maps app. This feature has been available for Android for quite some time, but iPhone users have been relying completely on third-party apps, some of which are quite expensive (but offer an extensive list of features.) Services such as MapQuest also offer turn-by-turn navigation, but having voice navigation built-in to the phone's native app would be a very nice addition for users.

The tweak is "coming soon" to the Cydia store. There's no word as to how much the app will cost. This feature is one of the most talked-about feature for operating systems such as android. Having this tweak would create yet another valuable reason to jailbreak your iPhone.

We can only hope that this tweak will only be a temporary solution. Hopefully Apple can bring this feature to iOS natively in a future software update. We'll just have to wait and see. For now, enjoy the preview video.

Instead of being a complete ****, why not tell us what kind of features your would like to see in it ?

I'd pay $8 (and I did) for all map data stored locally and the usual bells and whistles in a real navigation app, but not even $1 for Google Maps with voice directions. Just my opinion, of course.

See, I can understand that. Some people, however do like the simplicity of being able to quickly search for points of intrest around them. Google maps allows quick and clean ways to preform that. I am not saying google maps is the greatest for long distance trips, because I know its not.

No need for name calling. It's just my opinion. I really don't see the point of paying for voice directions added to Google Maps when you can get a real nav app for $8. If you'd like to see what I think would be nice to have in Google Maps, go try out CoPilot. But it's really pointless since I already have, use, and like CoPilot. Maybe others do not and would like to have Google Maps with voice directions. To each his own.

I understand what your saying, I have a navigation app on my phone as well and I love it. I was just wondering why this tweak had to be a fail, that's all!

I could also see this being useful for those who live near the boarder or for international travellers as most of the GPS apps are regional. I use Google maps all the time so I'm deffinetly looking forward to this.

gotcha... at least this would give other people other options... only downside is, they have to be jailbroken phone. only if your tweak can be approved by apple itself, then you would have other people who are not jailbroken as well. this is a nice option. im not gonna knock it down just because. keep it up, dont let others knock you down.

Wow, so someone is charging for a tweak for a feature that is free to Android users. Does anyone else remember when Cydia was free. Pretty much everything cool/useful is charged for now on there. Only stuff free is ****** 'themes', aka wallappers and maybe a few poorly made icons.

What exactly does android have to do with them developing this?

I remember when cydia was all free and all the extensions were mostly garbage. Without the motivation of an income, how would you suggest we attract quality devs to this scene?

I think it is a great idea to have another "option" a stand alone basic navigion app with voice should have been included in the OS. Thanks Infectionfx for implementing this and as I understand adding even more features!
