The Notification Center grabber (or switch, as the tweak refers to it) is a swipe-sensitive function in iOS 5 that can be used to launch Notification Center in full-screen applications. The feature is there since the Status Bar is not visible in full-screen applications and was included by Apple as a type of fail-safe. However, does it ever annoy you when the Notification Center grabber pops up while you are in a full-screen application?
A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed DisableNC Switch by iOS developer _iceNuts will keep the grabber from appearing so you can enjoy your full-screen application without the disturbance. In the event that you are in a full-screen application – Angry Birds Space for instance – the Notification Center grabber can appear if you are swiping on the screen anywhere near its toggle point. This could disrupt your game play and additionally put the annoying little Notification Center grabber in the top of your screen, blocking your view until it is dismissed.
This tweak is not for people that enjoy the Notification Center grabber feature and it certainly will not be fitting for people that love Notification Center in general. The good news is that the tweak comes with a toggle, which is located in the Settings application, where you can enable and disable the tweak at your own leisure. This is probably a good idea, since only certain games could have touch gestures that conflict with the Notification Center grabber.
While the tweak works fine functionally, the preferences pane icon doesn’t support the retina display and looks a little choppy. Anyone who is a stickler for design may have a problem with this. If you feel the need to disable the Notification Center grabber for the sake of conflicting jailbreak tweaks or full-screen iOS games, be sure for give this jailbreak tweak a try and report back with your results.
