  • Twitter 4.2 for iOS Released

Many people still use third-party Twitter clients for iOS, such as TweetBot because of the extensive features, quick loading speeds, and nifty appearances they offer. However, you have to give Twitter some credit for keeping the updates rolling in for their own native Twitter application for iOS and at least trying to make it better. Today, Twitter rolls out version 4.2 of the Twitter application.

The update comes in heavy with quite a few new features, but focuses a lot on improvements. The design of the application has been slightly tweaked, Discover story relevance has been improved, spelling suggestions and related searches have been added to the search results from the Discover tab as well as a list of recent searches, and support for the new languages: Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish, and Swedish have been added to the application.

The larger updates include an improved activity monitor from the Discover tab, which allows you to view who your connections follow, when they update their lists, and the ability to see the Tweets they choose to favorite or retweet. Additionally, when searching in the Connect tab, you will now notice the Twitter application try to auto-complete any usernames you type in. The last new feature has to do with push notifications, improving the alert system by letting you know when people follow you or retweet and/or favorite your Tweets. This appears to focus on giving you the power to see more about what people are doing from your mobile device, similarly to what you can do on the desktop version.

While Twitter is working hard and bringing a better user experience to their native iOS application, it probably won’t be enough to sway most third-party Twitter client users back to the native Twitter application. Despite the update, the application continues to receive rather poor user-ratings. Twitter still needs to work on speed and application reliability before many Twitter users will even consider going back to the native application.

The update says "Twitter for iOS 4.2". Figured they would concentrate on 5.0.

Seems like that might be a typo on their part!
