[Review] KnobColoring - Change Your Unlock Knob's Color
If you have ever wanted to change the color of your slide to unlock bar knob from the lock screen (such as like the screenshot examples above), then there is a new free jailbreak tweak in Cydia today dubbed KnobColoring
by iOS developer Ron Melkhior
, which will let you adjust the color just how you want it. The tweak comes with a simple preferences pane in the Settings application, which is illustrated by the screenshot shown below:
The preferences pane is very easy to follow as it has an enable and disable switch so you can toggle the effects of the tweak whenever you feel like it. The other main part would be the RGB (red, green, blue) sliders, which allow you to adjust the coloring of the slide to unlock slider knob.
The tweak is very swift to change the color of the slide to unlock slider knob, not requiring a respring or any kind of action between changes. Unforunately, since the RGB sliders do not give much of an indication of which colors you are creating, you are taking a complete guess at what color the slider will be each and every time you change it. On the bright side, the RGB sliders are much more versatile than a color list selection would be.
Another thing that stands out is that the coloring is more of a hue overlay than it is changing the actual color of the slider. The coloring is extremely light, which can make it more difficult to distinguish for some users with below par vision. Bolder color appearances as well as color indicators (to know what color you are actually picking before applying it) could make this tweak a better one.
Changing the color of your slider knobs can be a fun way to brighten up the iOS appearance, or to make the lock screen go along better with your custom wallpaper. Most themers would want to take advantage of something like this if the theme they are using doesn't come with a lock screen slider knob theme. Although there are some kinks that should be worked out, the tweak works as advertised and we couldn’t ask too much more from a free tweak. Give it a try!
