No case is ever protective enough, yet we have been able to drop a naked iPhone 4 from an airplane up in the air and find it on the ground unscathed. Interesting concept; right?
If the Otterbox or Tank iPhone cases aren’t protective enough for you, then maybe it’s time to question your way of life – or at least to get a heavier, larger iPhone case. This case (pictured above) is very thick, very heavy, and it’s bulletproof. The case is capable of defending your iPhone against a direct impact from a 50 caliber (12.7mm) bullet, which is a massive round. However, you might have more things to worry about than your iPhone's safety if you’re trying to defend against 50 caliber bullets.
The case features an anodized aluminum front with proper openings for the iPhone's screen, ports, sensors, and buttons, however the rear is the bulletproof portion. The rear side of the case is crafted from one-inch thick steel and it is attached to the aluminum front of the case via four screws – one in each corner. The case’s dimensions when assembled are 138mm × 81.8mm × 39.6mm and it will weigh 2.1 kilograms (about 4.6 pounds) with the iPhone inside.
Unfortunately, because the case needs a one-inch thick steel backing to be bulletproof, you can assume the camera quality is going to suffer a bit. Not only will you not be able to use the flash properly, however you will basically be taking photographs through a one-inch thick steel tunnel, which will frame all of your photographs with a circle. But what's more important: protection or taking photographs?
The case comes with a complimentary 12.7mm dummy bullet cartridge so you can have a souvenir to tell all your friends about your cool new case. You can purchase the bulletproof iPhone case from Marudai’s Web site, costing 52,500 Yen, which is about $650. The site says the case is compatible with the iPhone 4, however it does not make mention of the iPhone 4S. We assume it would fit the iPhone 4S too since the two iPhones have the same body style.
This case is more of a story piece than a practical iPhone case, but collectors are always out for things like this. Let us know if you’ll be buying one!
